His parents start shouting that he should stay away from the water, but the boy is already swimming in the sea and sharks are going to eat him! Then the two desperate parents take action: they start praying to the gods. A dark voice suddenly takes over and the view zooms out, the whole island is now visible. The dark voice says: "When people pray a God is always born. Able to change eternity, that God is you. Are you a blessing, or a curse? Good, or evil? Be what you will, you are destiny."
The Aeon have their origins in humanity's sole contact with an alien race called the Seraphim. When the contact went bad, the resulting conflict ended up with an entire planet full of dead extraterrestrials. The Aeon was formed to adopt the aliens' culture into human society in recompense for humanity's crime. Now, however, it turns out that said planet wasn't the Seraphim's home; it was just a small colony of a much larger empire. Now the Seraphim have opened a gate into human-controlled space and discovered what happened to their long-lost brothers. Needless to say, they're pissed and they've decided where humanity failed at universal genocide, the Seraphim will succeed.

The story of humanity's battle with the Seraphim will play out in a brand-new single-player campaign that details the triple alliance of Aeon, Cybran and UEF battling against the first truly alien presence in the game. While the Seraphim won't be playable in single-player, they'll certainly throw a few monkey wrenches into tried-and-true strategies with over 100 new units including a really cool experimental bomber that darkens a big chunk of the sky before it brightens up the area with negative energy bombs that are basically mini-nukes.

Not to be left out, there are some fun new toys for each of the game's original three factions. The UEF is getting a 3-point defensive emplacement that will help defend against ground assault. The Cybrans should enjoy a shout out to Total Annihilation, the Brick, a mobile missile launcher that shoots torpedoes in the water and lasers on land. The real fun for the Cybrans comes in the form of their new experimental megalith. This crab-like monstrosity is amphibious and can blow away entire navies. On land it moves slower but acts as a mobile production platform that can drop armies on the run. The resource requirements for these giant units have also been reduced so players should finally start seeing them in multiplayer matches.

Some of the most important additions to the game, however, won't be immediately obvious from the screen. The game's new AI is apparently way, way smarter than the one that shipped with the original version. According to Gas Powered Games personnel, in internal testing it's been able to beat the old AI in about 10 minutes with much less of a performance hit. The game will ship with unit shaders that make everything shinier and cut down the drag on performance. Aircraft get a new flight dynamic model, the sky dome's been revamped and the user interface has been re-done and can now be skinned and reorganized with faction-appropriate art.
This organization pushed scientific progress and planetary colonization forward until the human race covered almost the entire galaxy. Ironically, it was the Core's final triumph against mortality that would prove to be its undoing, for when the Core mandated uploading all peoples' brain patterns into machines in a method known as "patterning," there was a massive rebellion from the Arm (named after their location, an arm of the spiral galaxy), an organization which banded together from the edges of the galaxy and demanded to keep their physical bodies. A war like no other began, which has since raged on for four thousand years. The Core copy their finest warriors' brains into fighting robots, and the Arm respond with cloning and powerful manned units.

WarCraft

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/warcraft/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Warcraft: Orcs & Humans is the real-time fantasy strategy game from Blizzard Entertainment that quickly became a best seller. Warcraft has not only become a classic, winning many awards, but it has set new standards for multiplayer games. Set in the mythic kingdom of Azeroth, players are given the task of maintaining a thriving economy while building a war machine with which to destroy the enemy.

It's extremely accessible and yet there's plenty of depth just waiting to be uncovered. It's turn-based play makes it ideal for casual pickup and play and yet the turns are quick and fast paced so as to keep the action moving.
My Bogle will be launching along side our Friends Play Free invitation service. What that means is that when you buy My Bogle, you'll get to send invitations to your friends and family, who can then download and play the full version of My Bogle online against you anytime they want, without any restrictions. The only caveat is that if they want to play when you're not around, then they'll need to buy the game too. Think of it a bit like Frisbee for Video Games. As long as you own a Frisbee, you can play it with anybody you want, right? You don't think "hey, I wonder if the person I'm throwing this to has a license to catch it." And that way your friends can be exposed to the great game of Frisbee for free (all thanks to you), but they can only play Frisbee when you're around unless they go out and buy one for themselves. This game manages to take the well-known mythology surrounding the story and focused on the war in the North between the elves, dwarves, goblins, and Mordor forces that is only touched upon in the book and is left out completely in the movies. LORD OF THE RINGS: THE BATTLE FOR MIDDLE EARTH II plays out much like the game of Risk in that players must move their armies around a board that is covered in territories. Players will find that this new battle between good and evil takes place on a much grander scale with six different factions combining to against the forces of Mordor. Players can also combine forces in multiplayer mode to get the most out of the fights. This ability to customize the fighting options makes for a great game no matter what type of mood the player is in. All of these factors make playing the second installment in the Battle for Middle Earth series just as exciting and entertaining as the first time around, without the worry that players will just be repeating the game in a different format. There are 6 different types of fighting that can occur. One being sword, 2 being archery, 3 being mounted horse, 4 being religious between priests, 5 being battles between catapults and ballistas, and 6 being between ships. Many of the different types are mixed in with each other, such as archery horsemen. This opens up a whole new can of possibilities and ways of expanding just the gameplay itself rather than the management. The need for detailed battle plans and increasingly deceptive and cunning tactics suddenly grows tremendously.

Two political factions have gone to war over a distant world and the secrets it holds in Ground Control, a visually stunning and frenetically paced action/real-time strategy game from Sierra and Massive Entertainment.

By combining strategic combat with fast-paced 3D action elements, Ground Control promises to deliver a fresh experience that will appeal to a wide audience, including online gaming enthusiasts.

At its core, Ground Control is a frenetically paced RTS played out in a visually stunning 3D world. During the course of the game, players will be challenged in an intense arena of battle- effectively managing tactical squads of foot soldiers, mobile units, air craft and support units as they vie for control of a distant planet.

In addition to the epic single-player game, Ground Control's extensive multiplayer component features several unique multiplayer modes including deathmatch-style drop-in games - a first for RTS.

Additional Game Features:

Command your squads in a variety of formations, across rugged terrain, and to victory in several different mission objectives.

Focus on the strategy and action. Ground Control eliminates many of the tedious aspects of typical RTS games and focuses its gameplay on tactics, strategy, and the art of battle.

Choose your troops. Various types of tanks, hover bikes, airplanes, and soldiers will be at your disposal, delivered to the battlefield by orbital dropships. However once you are in battle you won't be able to make more, so proper troop selection will be key to success.

Arm your troops. Each unit type has special weapons, abilities, and armor. Players can choose to custom fit each unit or let the game auto-select the proper load out for each mission. Special equipment can include medikits, repair kits, image intensifiers, afterburners, various stationary turrets, or repair stations. Most specials can usually be used two or three times during a level, although the most powerful special abilities, such as the bomber's tactical nuclear warhead, are limited to a single use.

Advanced artificial intelligence makes your troops and your enemy's troops act and fight realistically.

A gripping story line will unfold as you command your troops through 30 single-player missions.

Take the battle online. Battle your friends or enemies via the Internet or LAN in traditional RTS multiplay, as well as in multiplayer modes new to the RTS genre.

Control the camera to get a better view of the action. A free-floating camera allows you to zoom in and out and view the action from any angle.

Ground Control completely does away with resource and economic management, expanding the conventional focus from real-time strategy into real-time tactical combat.

Ultra high quality 16Bit textures and amazingly detailed units and buildings. Ground Control employed relatively new 'Rendering Distance' code features that control the level of polygons you can see by the distance at which they are. A character seen at great distance may consist of only a few polygons, but zooming in reveals gorgeous detail.

Hands-on tutorial gets you up to speed for your role as a battlefield commander by tasking you with various and comprehensive objectives and enemy engagements.

The player is able to control a group of Allies' paratroopers in special missions in enemy territories situated throughout Europe. Thanks to the three-dimensional depiction and chosen subject, we succeeded in dynamically combining the elements of 3D action and tactical strategy. The player can control any of four commando members from several 3D views and, at the same time, he can program on a tactical map the tasks for the rest of the team. Numerous new features and ideas give the game an original and absolutely unique atmosphere. The player is drawn right into the action.

Stratagus

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/stratagus/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Stratagus was previously an open source project known as 'Freecraft', and its original purpose was to re-create the Warcraft 2 engine to the point of 100% playability.
