Terrorists operate openly - killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world's economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control. No one believes they exist. No one but you.

Fringespace

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/fringespace/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

This project is designed to duplicate, as closely as possible, the "feel" of Tachyon: The Fringe, to the Freespace 2 game engine.

Tachyon was always plagued by bugs, hacking, and a lack of updates. This mod is an attempt to rectify most of the egregious problems, and to update the playing experience for Tachyon fans.

As the project gains momentum, we'll be putting more information up, and sharing our progress with you.

Crysis

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/crysis/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Crysis is an upcoming sci-fi first-person shooter computer game that is currently in production by German developer Crytek.
Gameplay is aimed to recreate the feel of the original Goldeneye. The levels are being remade in such away as to still have the correct feel as well, but have a major graphics overhaul.

Recently Goldeneye Source won Bronze for the Mod Of The Year 2006 from ModDB, and then went on to also win the Editors Choice Award for Reinvention.

Note: Half-Life 2 required.

Project Unknown

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/project-unknown/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

The year is 2300 and supreme dominance of a single world government called the U.E.C (United Earth Council) exists, ruling over the entire globe. Through pollution and war the world's main populace survives in fortified mega-metropolises referred to as citadels scattered throughout uninhabitable wastelands. In 2200 when the U.E.C was first formed the decision was taken to only take those who were most important to society into the protection of the citadels.

Although many live happy lives in the serenity of the citadels and with ignorance that over half the world's population lives in turmoil, outside life is a harsh experience, many have died in the inhospitable environment but for those that have survived so far evolution has "gifted" them with something special, unknown to the U.E.C those left outside were not the only life that survived. At different locations around the world life has re-emerged stronger than before with new species of plants and animals flourishing in independent eco-systems. These are a haven for those left outside and are their means of survival.

The past is not easily forgotten though and inevitably the two divisions of humans would obviously not co-exist peacefully. The war is just about to begin, the U.E.C is unaware of what is about to unfold but tension is rising after transports between citadels have gone missing. The outcasts plan for revenge is in motion...

The Sides:

U.E.C Military/Security forces:

The U.E.C seeks to finish off what they started and destroy what is left of any resistance to its rule. The U.E.C arsenal is composed of conventional ballistic weaponry with a few elite soldiers wielding the newly developed energy weapons.

The Outcasts:

The Outcasts seek revenge against their brethren; motivated by this they have spent many years planning for their revenge. They seek to change the earth to a world full of jungles and devoid of technology or cities with humanity living alongside nature. The Outcasts of course cannot wage a war with weapons made from wood and stone, instead they utilize the "gifts" given to them by evolution to destroy their foes, and so with a variety of hand to hand combat, enhanced reflexes and elemental forces to help them along they are a deadly adversary to any U.E.C force.

Silence Of The Terminals

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/sott/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Silence Of The Terminals (SOTT) is an Educational Multiplayer FPS.

Hacking is done by questions, these can be about HTML, C++, Java or anything else. Either enforce question topics, or everyone to their own.

Get to the top of your technology tree first by hacking and capturing and you'll get more powerful weapons, energy, health and more...

This is an experimental educational game.
The critics were equally impressed and UT was awarded with Game of The Year honors by a variety of publications, including GameSpy.com and Computer Gaming World. UT was later ported to the PS2, Dreamcast, Linux, and Mac.
Years later, people are still making great modifications and add-ons for UT. One successful community spawned mod, Tactical Ops, was even recently released as an entire stand-alone commercial product.
