It is the sequel to Night Warriors and it is the third game in the DarkStalkers game series. It features characters based on famous myths and fantasy rather than standard martial arts fare. It also emphasizes on the use of special attacks.

Vampire Savior adds in new characters such as Q-Bee, B.B.Hood (Bulleta in Japan), Lilith and Jedah.

Due to space limitations of the CPS-2 (Capcom Play System 2), the arcade version does not include the entire 18 character cast (however the console ports do). As such, another version dubbed Vampire Savior 2 replaces two characters with Huitzil and Pyron. This version was only released in Japanese arcades.
