Players will have the ability to train and catch pokemon while battling other trainers online in real-time. The POL game is closely based on the original Pokemon Gameboy games, with most of the traditional elements remaining intact. The POL enviroment is completely 2D and replicates the graphics used in the original games. The POL MMORPG has the ability to support hundreds and even thousands of simultaneously connected players. This means that you will interact in a vast virtual world, with many kingdoms and quests, with players from all over the world.
The game is themed after another game which is being developed by Flagship Studios called Hellgate: London. The project was started under an unknown title as just a 2D engine. Soon after the announcement of Hellgate: London in 2005 gave Taylor Balbi the drive to turn his 2D Engine into a 2D Sidescrolling Game.

The team has been forever changing as have the graphics. The original character was only 46px tall and was replaced by the beauty you see here. The design for the game came from one principle discovery. The discovery was that Bill Roper and the gang at Flagship Studios were as big of fans of Shaun of the Dead as Taylor Balbi was. If Hellgate: London is going to have a cricket bat, so will HGL:16.

Originally the game was being created using the C Programming Language, but due to laziness and intrigue, Taylor Balbi switched his efforts over to Game Maker 6.1. The simplicity of the utility made development less of a strain while only bring one draw back, no Vista support.

From the Journals of Doctor Carter

"Something is terribly wrong with Seahorse Island.

It's about a thirty suns now since the crops and trees began to wither and die. It has been raining for what seems like an eternity, but the rain does nothing to nourish the soil. The leaves have been gone from the trees outside my office for many suns now. The trees look like twisted corpses. I don't recall ever seeing such a sight as I do now as I write this.

Farmer Haywood has stockpiled the remaining grain, and has begun rationing it to the town. It should last us a while, but what then?

Mr. Clancy came to visit me today. He is looking for a woman--an "evil and manipulative creature" is how he put it--a mainlander spy, incredibly dangerous, and should I see or hear word of her I should report to him immediately.

It may be my imagination but I seem to be seeing a lot of people around town I don't recognise lately. Out of the corner of my eye, just stood in the shadows--watching. The townsfolk seem to pay them no heed, which I find odd given their inherent xenophobic nature -- or (dare I say it?) am I seeing things? Has the madness that is spreading across our fair island started to affect my mind also?"

Game Information

The Forgotten Element will be released completely free of charge. This is a labour of love and we have no intention of making money from it. The full game is split as such:

Prologue
Act I
Act II
Act III

The complete three act game will be comparable in length to commercial point-and-clicks, with each part being released as and when they are completed. The prologue will feature approx 1 - 1.5 hours of gameplay.

Once the game is finished, we will also be releasing all plug-ins and ALL art assets so people can use them as they wish in their own games. Our only limitation on their use is that they not be used in commercial games.

Spore

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/spore/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Spore is a computer and video game under development by Maxis, and designed by Will Wright. It simulates the complete history and future of life according the evolution theory. Its concept, scope, and development philosophy (broad use of procedural generation) has drawn wide attention.

Spore is, at first glance, a "teleological evolution" game or god game: the player molds and guides a species across many generations, growing it from a single-celled organism into a more complex animal, until the species becomes intelligent. At this point the player begins molding and guiding this species' society, progressing towards a spacefaring civilization. Spore's main innovation is the use of procedural generation for many of the components of the game, providing vast scope and open-endedness. Wright said "I didn't want to make players feel like Luke Skywalker or Frodo Baggins. I wanted them to be like George Lucas or J.R.R. Tolkien."

BioShock

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/BioShock/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

The idealistic surroundings and grim reality are constantly at odds.

Often touted as the "Spiritual successor to System Shock 2", BioShock is a long awaited fps in development by Irrational Games, with lead designer Ken Levine promising to advance the definition of first person shooters.

As a likely 2007 release grows closer more screenshots and trailers are being released, and one thing that's apparent is a gorgeous environment, seemingly inspired in great part by the art deco period of the last century.

Game overview and features as reported at the official site
BioShock is a revolution in the shooter genre that will forever change the expectations for the FPS. Going beyond "run and gun corridors," "monster-closet AIs" and static worlds, BioShock creates a living, unique and unpredictable FPS experience. BioShock is the Shooter 2.0.

After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn.
Battleships Forever is a freeware tactical Real Time Strategy game that puts you in command of a small fleet of warships in space. Combat and damage mechanics are extremely detailed. Everything is simulated in game if possible. There are no abitrary "to hit chance" values in Battleships Forever. The game also features many innovative mechanics that you've never seen before. For example, the Cronus Battleship sports a Flux Shield generator that allows you to draw a defensive force shield around your ships in any shape you want. Another example are the Deflector modules that are used extensively through the game. These modules make a single section of a ship totally invulnerable to fire. This means that you will have to manoeuvre your ships to attack sections of the enemy ships not protected by Deflectors while keeping your own protected sections facing the enemy. Position is paramount!

Players will command picked fleets made up of Battleships, Destroyers and Patrol Craft. The completed game will include ten campaign missions and multiple skirmish modes.

The core game engine is released under the GPL License; however, the prepackaged mod that comes with the standard installation requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play it. There is, however, an official release which uses fully free content, and there are a number of mods, both in development and released, that are also completely free to use.

Spring is being developed by the Swedish Yankspankers and the Spring community. The initial goal was to have the game run the mods and 3rd party units from Total Annihilation. This goal is now mostly complete, and the project has moved on to including additional features. The game is mainly focused around multiplayer games over the Internet or a LAN connection. There are currently no single player campaigns or missions, although there is some basic support for this through Lua scripting. There are also many skirmish AIs under development, allowing for offline play or extra players in an online game.
Prism is an action adventure platform game featuring a character comprised of two contrasting software systems; a creative artificial intelligence and a restrictive algorithm. Roaming from level to level to neutralise viruses in a corrupted server network, Routine404 is able to take three principle forms: Biped Mode, Jet Mode and Pure Mode.

It is also possible for Routine404 to take the form of its enemies in later stages of the game after being subjected to enemy code. The game world takes place across 7 nodes of the server network. Each node is split into rooms called cells, and each node is joined by a vertical scrolling shoot-em up section where Routine404 is in Jet Mode throughout.

Some levels begin with 3D cut scene animation for storytelling purposes, and some actions such as opening doors or defeating end-of-level enemies trigger short 3D animated clips.

As the player progresses through the game, an increased effort is made to draw the player's attention to his/her interaction with the game. The purpose of which is to generate a perspective of self reference; one that encourages the player to question their role within the game, and the role of the game (and interactive media as a whole) in their life.

The climax of the game reveals that the enemy and hero are one and the same; both created for the purpose of storytelling by a force that remains elusive.

The reward for completion of the game is a generative level; one that is created dynamically at run time for the player to obtain a high score among a community of players.

Halo: Alpha

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/haloalpha/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

This is a game i decided to make because i like playing Halo 2 via LAN, and wanted to translate that into 2d.
the game's graphics and engine are (believe it or not) completely original. the game's engine is written in clickteam's multimedia fusion 2, while the graphics are done in humanbalance's graphicsgale.
the music is written by both me (arthur lee), and my close friend, j. michael brown. done in fruityloops using the 3xosc plugin as well as tweakbench's toad and peach vsts, the game's soundtrack has a real retro feel to it.
the game's plot revolves around a character named 'ip' who must escape from the underside, and maybe prevent the world from being destroyed while he's at it. the game's world, characters, plot strands, and dialogue are heavily inspired by earthbound, and are quirky, whimsical, and sometimes a little strange.

GAMESPOT said,
After being canceled at Interplay, this sequel to the cult post-apocalyptic role-playing game was resurrected by Bethesda, where it is currently in development.

The Fallout series is in a way a descendant of Interplay's 1988 "Wasteland", to which Electronic Arts retains the rights. The Fallout series takes place in a fictional post-holocaust earth inhabited by the "Vault Dwellers" who survived the fallout of the brief but deadly nuclear war of 2077 in meticulously managed underground facilities, and a variety of others who met different fates, which include, of course, mutation.

The series introduces the player to a quest of survival and adventure in an often harsh world of varied cultures, where not quite all that was good of mankind has perished, and the player may determine their own morality, skill and creativity.

Bethesda Software announced in 2004 that they had acquired the rights to produce Fallout 3 and subsequent sequels, though Interplay retained the MMO rights (and in November of 2006 set in motion a process that might lead to the funding and creation of a Fallout MMORPG.)

As of April 12, 2007 Bethesda appears to have purchased the IP to the Fallout franchise outright, as development continues.

Game Features (both known and speculated):

Bethesda is using the Gamebryo engine, with which they previously produced The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Actor Liam Neeson has been cast for a major voice acting role.

RPG elements are at the heart of the Fallout series, and also a staple of Bethesda Software, so it is anticipated that this aspect will remain.

Open-ended non-linear gameplay is likely.

Three different perspectives: Isometric, behind the shoulder, and first person.

(New Details from Game Informer magazine)

Game runs on an evolved version of the Oblivion engine. Third person view has been reworked since the verdict was that the Oblivion version was bad.

Game starts with your birth and your mother's death in a vault hospital. This is essentially the character customization part of the game. Your father hands you up to have your DNA analyzed and you get to pick out all your character traits. Your dad takes off his mask to reveal similar traits to the ones you picked.

You grow up in the vault and as you grow you get your first book titled "You're Special" which allows you to choose you baseline stats for each of your 7 primary aptitudes. You'll also get your first weapons and wrist computer (menu) as you get older and take tests to determine the initial layout of your skills and traits.

Every aspect of character creation is based on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. Of your 14 skills you can tag 3 to grow at a faster rate than the rest as you level up.

Battle system is called the Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.). The article states. "While you'll certainly be able to tackle enemies in real time using first person shooting, V.A.T.S. lets players pause time and select a target at their leisure". Battle system still uses action points, but once you've used them up you'll still be able to fight targets in real time while they charge back up.

Game is still violent and gory. One of the featured screens is of a guy's head exploding in super gory detail. Apparently all gory deaths in the game will be in slow motion.

More than one way to play the game. Go balls out and kill people, or sneak past situations, or perhaps talk your way out of situations.

Enemies can target you just like you can target them, so you can get injured in very specific points on you body. This in addition to an all new health/radiation system. This new system has you measuring how radiated certain things (like water) are and how they affect you when you consume them.

Karma system returns.

The game does not scale like oblivion, so if you enter a high level area expect to be promptly murdered.

Level cap is 20.

Definite ending to the game, but there are 9 - 12 possible endings.

There are NPC's you can hire, but this is not a party based game.

Regarding music, several musicians have helped remixing and improving the original soundtracks.

The game keeps a similar gameplay and was done from scratch, having devoted programming to emulate every one of the main characteristics in the original game.
The main character of the game is "Soulhunter" a lonely and tortured creature, who has lost his soul after years of slavery, despair and inprisonment. One day something miraculous happens and the creature begins his journey into the heart of the dark forest where a mysterious wish-granting spirit dwells, the only one who could possibly recover the creature's soul.

In his escape from the one that held him inprisoned the little creature managed to steal a magic sword that allows him to absorb souls from monsters, and use these souls to temporary stay alive.

This is one of those "platform-jumping/hack- and slash" games. The people that have tested it have said that it is like a mix of zelda, rayman and a nightmare before christmas. The game is still under development, I will hopefully finish it this(or next) year.
Recently Daz offered me to make music for this game and the samples he have made so far are sounding very good.
The rules will follow the role-playing rules and only vary in the conversion from a turn-based system to a real-time system. All conversions will be justified and will result in similar, if not identical behavior, if viewed in a turn-based time frame.

Physics, scale, and interactions will be of highest importance, followed by accurate input/output (i.e external hardware, see MechWarrior Combat Simulator Cockpit for more explanation), and with visual impressiveness being of lowest importance (i.e. I'm not starting out with beautiful models that don't interact with their environment correctly). Network multi-player is not a priority.

The initial project will cover the technology of 2550. It will start in the year 2550 and span to current time of 3070's. Since a game that size would be imposible to create in one shot, it will start with the range 2550 to 3025, a decline in technology. Each faction will be a separate add-on as will steps in time (3025-3050, 3050-3055, etc.). Clan will be an option, but only through participation in the Exodus.

The primary focus is a single-player game, multi-player is a separate function with the possibility of tying the two together with Solaris VII. The game will be comprised of a multi-generational character (obvious given the time frame). The game will be a collection of campaigns, divided into battles. Progress through the game will present options to the user allowing them to shape their destiny. All element of the game can be either scripted (pre-determined), randomly generated, or a combination of the two.

Harmonic Convergence (working title)

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/hc/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Enter a world of beautiful graphics, hypnotic music, and addictive gameplay.
TC:E is a modern world total conversion modification of the free, popular, stand-alone first-person shooter Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. That is, TC:E is an entirely free game, made by gamers, for gamers.

TC:E is currently being developed by GrooveSix Studios and TeamTerminator. While TeamTerminator is known for the famous Q3 based TrueCombat series, GrooveSix Studios was initiated by retired TeamTerminator co-founder Coroner to develop a Return to Castle Wolfenstein modification that is not released. Thus, as very experienced Q3-based content creators, we hope to be able to serve the gaming community with a quality offering.
Now, the most important question: "What can you expect from TC:E?" TC:E is a tactical-team shooter, set up in a modern-world environment. TC:E puts you into the role of elite mercenary soldier in the conflicts of two internationally operating forces.
SpecOps vs. Terrors
The Global Intervention Force (GIF626) is a special force formed of the top of the world experts joining from US Delta force, UK SAS, German KSK and GSG9, to mention a few. An international mercenary organization known as "The Unit" is their opponent. It is reported that some of these dudes are were once with the above forces, but the lure of money is strong. You say "Yet another terror counter-terrorism shooter. Why the hell should I go for it?". We say "Cause you don't have to spend a cent and it features:"
As the gamer finds and kills these targets, their conspiracy is unveiled. The player will be able to travel through three cities, Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. The environment is completely interactive, from the people to the historically accurate cities. These cities are populated by many people and the way the player controls Altair affects how people around him react to his presence. For example, when going through a crowd, if the player lightly moves someone out of the way, it will not have a significant effect. However, if the player throws someone to the ground and kills them, the crowd may unite against him and he will then have to find a way out. Similarly, if the player shoves a person aside, they may shove him back.
