clear: left;" src="http://static.greatgamesexperiment.com/userimages/c/c1dfdd57bc333b2c345b6896df50be5c_sq.jpg" title="Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance Image" /> The story of Forged Alliance begins in the origins of the Aeon, one of the original Supreme Commander factions. The Aeon have their origins in humanity's sole contact with an alien race called the Seraphim. When the contact went bad, the resulting conflict ended up with an entire planet full of dead extraterrestrials. The Aeon was formed to adopt the aliens' culture into human society in recompense for humanity's crime. Now, however, it turns out that said planet wasn't the Seraphim's home; it was just a small colony of a much larger empire. Now the Seraphim have opened a gate into human-controlled space and discovered what happened to their long-lost brothers. Needless to say, they're pissed and they've decided where humanity failed at universal genocide, the Seraphim will succeed.

The story of humanity's battle with the Seraphim will play out in a brand-new single-player campaign that details the triple alliance of Aeon, Cybran and UEF battling against the first truly alien presence in the game. While the Seraphim won't be playable in single-player, they'll certainly throw a few monkey wrenches into tried-and-true strategies with over 100 new units including a really cool experimental bomber that darkens a big chunk of the sky before it brightens up the area with negative energy bombs that are basically mini-nukes.

Not to be left out, there are some fun new toys for each of the game's original three factions. The UEF is getting a 3-point defensive emplacement that will help defend against ground assault. The Cybrans should enjoy a shout out to Total Annihilation, the Brick, a mobile missile launcher that shoots torpedoes in the water and lasers on land. The real fun for the Cybrans comes in the form of their new experimental megalith. This crab-like monstrosity is amphibious and can blow away entire navies. On land it moves slower but acts as a mobile production platform that can drop armies on the run. The resource requirements for these giant units have also been reduced so players should finally start seeing them in multiplayer matches.

Some of the most important additions to the game, however, won't be immediately obvious from the screen. The game's new AI is apparently way, way smarter than the one that shipped with the original version. According to Gas Powered Games personnel, in internal testing it's been able to beat the old AI in about 10 minutes with much less of a performance hit. The game will ship with unit shaders that make everything shinier and cut down the drag on performance. Aircraft get a new flight dynamic model, the sky dome's been revamped and the user interface has been re-done and can now be skinned and reorganized with faction-appropriate art.
TS: Hyperbol is a game viewed Top-Down over a flat playing-field as you take control of a Ship that you customize in order to destroy your opponents. Game Types include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill, Spawn Capture, Attack/Defend Objectives, and more to be added later with a Map editor.
Your ship functions more like a Battleship, as it is stationary most of the time, a Turret that you can move occasionally across the map into strategically key positions, or simply to dodge incoming fire. The farther you move, the long you have to wait to move again. Or, you can customize your ship to recharge it's fuel rapidly if you wish to use a more active flighty Ship.
There are 6 Weapon modules that will produce the weapons you use. Your factory can hold up to 6 Mods total, so if you want more of 1 type, you have to forgo access to another. Having more then 1 will make production of that type faster, and allow you to hold more in your max stock. Each Mod will produce several different projectiles, for example the basic 'Ballistics' mod will give you access to Energy Bolts, Missiles, and Shrapnel Bombs. Also, once you have build a total of 6 Mods, you have the option to Upgrade 1 of them into a lv. 2 Super version. All the weapons made by this super Mod are either upgraded, or totally new versions of the weapon. As the above example, the Bolts do extra damage, the Missiles become MIRV Packs, and the Shrapnel Bombs become Shrapnel Wedges, which fires all it's shards in a cone instead of in all directions.

Funeral Quest

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/funeralquest/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Funeral Quest is a web-based multiplayer game that simulates the world's second oldest profession - the Undertaker.

Wing Commander Armada was at least half a decade ahead of its time. In the summer of 1994 it incorporated turn based strategy with 3D fighter combat. Armada was the testbed for the WC3 engine and therefore the first WC game to deploy fully three dimension ship models in flight. The strategic mode had eleven elaborate sectors to conquer, and the game could randomly generate sectors for unlimited gameplay options. Players mined ore, built shipyards and reinforced strategic systems. When clashes occured, the game could compute the possible results or pilots could pilot the fighters firsthand. All of this could be done over a modem or network with fellow fans. Hot seat and split screen options were also available. Players could even record taunts, send them to opponents and have their own voices key in during combat. The game had a fifteen mission storyline describing the TCS Lexington's desperate mission to circumvent the Kilrathi borders and destroy the Kilrathi homeworld. On top of all this, players could turn it around and play as the Kilrathi from start to finish. The narrated manual that was included describes the war from the Kilrathi perspective in some depth. Because of the immature state of the internet when it was released, Armada's multiplayer options don't yet live up to their full potential, but efforts are under way to discover ways to play online.

"For Wurm Online (henceforth called Wurm) to be something special and not just another 3D fantasy massively multiplayer game, we realized that we had to actually implement the features that players have demanded since the dawn of these types of games. Other 3D games have promised these features and still have them on their 'upcoming features' list unless they dropped them when they realized they'd never make it. Why? Because Wurm is built on technology that can make it happen and other games are not.

The first technological advantage of Wurm: it is done in Java. This means that we can reach gamers on operating systems that usually have few if any of these types of games to play. We also consider Wurm to be the first 3D java game that actually looks better graphically than most PC games while still being playable.

The second advantage: Wurm is tile-based. This means first and foremost three things:

We have more manageable data structures

We may stream terrain

Line of sight in the client may be outrageous

Now, none of these possibilities are easy to implement but we have succeeded. This is the glory of Wurm and the foundation that the game rests upon.

An example of the technological advantage:
Because we have such manageable data structures, we may have millions of individual trees on one map.
For example, streaming the terrain gives us the opportunity compared to other games:

trees and plants grow

you can cut down trees

and you can plant trees

Other effects are for instance:

you can terraform by digging and dropping dirt.

you can pave roads

grass and other types of vegetation compete to be predominant

you can dig out caves in the mountains

* some terrain can be converted to farmland where you grow crops of various kinds"

Battlefield 2: Armored Fury

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/bf2af/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Battlefield 2: Armored Fury is the second booster pack released for Battlefield 2 and was released on June 6, 2006. It added 3 new maps, as well as two new vehicle classes: attack jets for close air support and reconnaissance helicopters that automatically locate enemies. Operation Midnight Sun features the Chinese landing at the Alaskan port Valdez where they are trying to secure much needed fuel from the pipeline. Operation Road Rage is a MEC vs. USMC map, where the MEC are using US Highways to transport units to industrial areas. Operation Harvest sees the United States trying to stall the MEC on route to the capital from northwest, being blocked in a Pennsylvania Dutch farm, while waiting for reinforcements. New vehicles include the A-10 Thunderbolt II (part of the Attack Jet class) and the OH-6 Little Bird (as part of the recon helicopter class). However, the proposed AV-8B Harrier was cut from the addon due to balancing issues.
It includes six new armies (compared to just three in Battlefield 2): U.S. Navy SEALs, British SAS, Russian Spetsnaz and MEC Special Forces, a Russian Rebel group and a Middle-Eastern Insurgent faction. These last two armies are apparently inspired by, respectively, Chechnean rebels and insurgents in Iraq, but not named as such in the game. There are ten new vehicles, twelve new weapons, and eight new maps.

This expansion pack is available for purchase via EA's content delivery service, known as EA Link, in addition to retail copies and Battlefield 2 deluxe edition. The expansion pack also includes new awards that players can earn, such as badges, ribbons and medals. The day of release of the expansion pack, EA/Dice released a new patch (version 1.12) which fixed a few bugs but mostly added art assets for the original Battlefield 2 game to support the new weapons from the expansion.
Both players get 7 pawns and 1 king on a 8x8 board. The goal is to get your opponent's king or 6 of his pawns. Each turn, the player may select 1 stone and move it straight or in an L-bow. You cannot jump over stones, but you can step onto your opponent's stone to take it. The numbers on your stones indicate the number of tiles they can move in a turn. When the Mastermind option is selected, the stones change in value when you move it. Pawns can get numbers 1-4, while the king only gets 1 or 2. A challenging game!
Setting the Mastermind option (to change the alue of your stones each move) will show numbers on the board so you will know the number you will get when you move a stone there.
