The game is a stealth-based first person shooter. It is the sequel to Innerloop's Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In. The original, published by Eidos Interactive, offered only single-player play with no save game feature; it was polished and well-executed. Covert Strike added multiplayer play and limited save game capability, but was riddled with design flaws and bugs; this led Eidos to pass on the title, and it was picked up by Codemasters instead. The technical problems of the game led to poor sales, and contributed to Innerloop's demise.

Story

The protagonist, David Llewellyn Jones, a covert operative for the Institute for Geotactical Intelligence (IGI), is sent on a mission to recover stolen computer chip technology. The trail leads the player to a Chinese general, who intends to employ an EMP device to knock out US satellites, and consequently the GPS system, rendering US intelligence services blind.

The storyline is based on US Congressional Defense hearings. Although the game was not released in China, it was banned by the Chinese government for defamation of national character.

Gameplay

Since the idea of the Covert Strike is the game's dominant motif, it often requires the player to carry minimal ammo supply with just one primary weapon and one secondary weapon. The concept of disallowing a player to carry an armory of weapons makes the game very difficult at times as applying a strategy is made indirectly proportional to the allowed bullet count instead. At times it becomes literally impossible to deploy a covert strike against enemy targets and the player might get killed with no place to hide. Overall the gameplay revolves around patience and practice.

Strategy/Tips

The enemy AI in the game is quite buggy, giving players ample number of ways too overcome the enemy. One can crouch behind a wall or behind a door and keep on preying on the enemies one by one. The enemy soldiers keep coming in small groups or singly, giving the player the chance to take them out, one by one. Even if there is a huge pile of dead bodies by a doorway, the enemies do not try to use a grenade or a rocket launcher unless the player is in plain view. In certain levels, it is possible to take out staggering number of enemy soldiers without moving a single inch, using this trick. Find a safe nook and keep taking out the enemies, one by one. The map computer comes in very handy for this. The other tip is that one can fire bullets from guns like the AK-47, the Minimi, the FN-MAG or the Steyr right through walls, killing enemies on the other side. As long as the enemy does not see the player, there won't even be any return fire. Weapons like the UZI and MAC10 however, cannot fire through the walls. To be effective and accurate, it helps to use the infrared mode on the map computer to peek through a wall, before opening fire.
The game is powered by the Unreal-based Deus Ex: Invisible War engine and unlike the original two titles, Deadly Shadows was developed simultaneously for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox.

You play Garrett: The Protagonist, Hero (or Anti-Hero, as many would argue), Master Thief, and Expert Assassin. Garrett is a solitary thief, who is willing to steal anything, and, if necessary, kill to get what he wants. Garrett is a simple man, with a rather large title, but who says it's easy being the greatest thief that ever lived? Pick locks, pickpocket people, mug people, scale buildings with ease (Requires Climbing Gloves; found in the shop in the Docks). Garrett's stealth knows few bounds, and he has became a legend amongst his own kind.

One of the game's major new features was the ability to explore the City. While previous games sent Garrett straight from mission to mission, Thief: Deadly Shadows allows him to walk the City streets between missions where he can steal from passersby, spy on the townspeople, and complete the occasional sidequest in addition to major story missions. Unlike games such as Grand Theft Auto III, the city is not one large continuous map, but rather several small neighbourhood maps connected by load zones.

No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy In H.A.R.M.'s Way

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/NOLF2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Super spy Cate Archer is on the prowl again in this campy, action-packed romp from Monolith.

Kleptocracy!

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/kleptocracy/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

<img style="float: left; clear: left;" src="http://static.greatgamesexperiment.com/userimages/5/536cabd1389333531be24d146835378d_sq.jpg" title="Kleptocracy! You control a commando who on each single-screen map have to complete various objectives, usualyl while killing a large number of enemies all on your own.

You control your character with the arrow keys. Shift is the general action button, which will fire your gun if you have it armed, and punch otherwise, and perform actions if you are in front of something upon which an action can be performed, such as a key (grab) or a team mate (follow/stop). Z is reload if you have your gun out, and grenade throwing otherwise. X changes your weapon.

The whole game is in Japanese, and there's no English translation, it should be reasonably clear what you need to do, otherwise just running around trying out things usually works.

Metal Gear Solid

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/mgs/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

This game is the game that started it all, sure the other ones after this are great, but I think this is the best.
basic Plot outline:
An elite group of Next Generation Special Forces lead by members of FOX HOUND has attacked and captured an Alaskan nuclear weapons facility.

Their demands state that the US government hand over the remains of their former commander (Big Boss) within 24 hours or they will launch a nuclear weapon.

Solid Snake's mission comes in a two phases. First, he needs to rescue both DARPA Chief Donald Anderson and the President of Arms Tech Kenneth Baker, both are being held captive in the facility.

Next, Snake needs to investigate weather or not the terrorists have the ability to actually launch a nuclear weapon, and stop them if they do.

Thief 2: The Metal Age

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/thief2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

On the streets and rooftops of a darkened city, where the forces of a corrupt sheriff loom, it takes someone with a soft touch and even softer step to stay ahead of the law.
