Two Worlds combines the extremely dynamic and sophisticated combat system with the meaning and freedom of exploration exceeding the accomplishments of other games of the genre.
A top quality Role Playing experience - the ultimate goal of the Two Worlds project is to deliver a superior Role Playing Game to the PC and Xbox 360 market where players have a real chance to shape the game world with their actions - to an extent that has yet to seen in other productions. This premise will be supported with a strong, non-linear storyline, mind blowing graphics, and stunning combat sequences. To attract the mass audience, the complexity of the game will be achieved mainly through a variety of meaningful choices while the User Interface will be simplified.

Exciting, spectacular and challenging combat - The combat system is easy to handle and the number of possible choices encourage experimenting with different styles and skills. Great visuals and dynamic choreography ensures the most exciting experience.

Strong sense of purpose and meaning - Two Worlds supports meaningful play. The dynamics of the game world allows for dramatic changes such as: taking over cities by various factions, overthrowing kings, eradicating entire organizations and much more.

Unconstrained freedom to experiment - the game promotes the ability to freely roam and explore the game world. Players will find their own way to beat challenges, solve problems and complete quests and will also be rewarded by different factions accordingly for the results of their actions.

The great latitude

The most visible aspect of the Two Worlds gameplay is the freedom to change the world and shape the story within it. Other important features are unlimited character development and exciting, spectacular combat. The player is encouraged to experiment with the world, test the results of good and evil deeds and find the most satisfying way to deal with challenges. The gameplay has been designed to evoke the long-term outcomes that are important to the player and offer them the power to change their state. The rush of adrenaline accompanying frequent combat situations will ensure short-term, powerful motivation to continue the current session of play.

The game offers a unique opportunity to influence the game world - unseen, to this scale, in other Role Playing games. Freedom of choice (like freedom to join or betray various organizations) and the importance of every decision are the core mechanisms to evoke the sense of meaningful play.

Depending on the way that a problem is solved, the player gains or loses their reputation in certain organizations, various options are being closed or opened, quests are offered and new locations are unlocked. For example, a player must decide whether to help a city hold off the invasion of orcs or to secretly open the gates and let the invaders in. The latter decision will result in an onslaught and the take over of the city by the barbaric hordes. The next time the player visits this location, it will be populated and managed by orcs, unless the human army arrives and tries to liberate the city. The world lives its own life, but the player has the power to change it. The challenge lies in finding the right "strings" and skilfully "pulling" them

Platforms

Two Worlds is being developed for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms. The game's complexity, dynamics and mechanisms have been designed to appeal to both markets and the steering takes advantage of mouse and game-pad features alike.

The Bard's Tale II: The Destiny Knight

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/thebardstale2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Developed by Interplay Productions and distributed by Electronic Arts, The Bard's Tale series is considered by many to be one of the pillar classics of computer fantasy role playing games.

In a distant land, long, long ago there once lived a prince, he was righteous and just, noble and honourable by nature and above all evil. Dark and treacherous powers joined together to spread evil over the land and to banish the prince from the principality and the thoughts of the people. Then because of an unsuccessful spell from the despicable lords the prince was banished to another dimension, but not from the memory and hearts of the people. Some years later, through the opening of a portal between dimensions by a good hearted magician, the prince was able to return to his principality. The task then was to drive out the evil lords from power and to allow peace and order to return. A bitter fight against the powers of evil is now imminent...

The Single Player RTS part of the game consists of three addictive, story driven campaigns. Each of them takes place in a different geographical area and bounds you every minute with new challenges like rescuing a kidnapped Princess or fighting a ferocious Dragon - or combat with nasty, ugly, smelly monsters and the bones of the walking dead. During the campaigns the player develops his characters and gains access to new weapons, special armour and magic items. He also has the possibility of creating new characters or building new structures. Additionally, an extensive RPG mode surprises with an even larger selection of maps, quests, weapons and enemies, plus a highly improved character development. For RTS fans and friends of massive multiplayer battles, several RTS skirmish and MP modes guarantee endless hours of exciting gameplay.

Wizardry 8

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wizardry8/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Wizardry 8 is an epic fantasy RPG that picks up where Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant left off.
Dune blended adventure with economic and military strategy, and is considered by many the most immersive Dune computer game. Loosely following the story of the novel, the game casts the player as Paul Atreides, with the ultimate goal of driving the Harkonnen from Dune, while managing spice extraction, military, and later, ecology through the native Fremen tribes. As the player progresses, his troops are equipped with weapons from "krys knives" to atomics, tap into Paul's latent psychic powers, and get acquainted with such characters from the book as Chani and Liet Kynes.

The game, seen always through the eyes of Paul, is a mix between RTS and adventure gaming. While the basis of the game is the strategy component, dialog between characters and a linear plotline give the game more depth than most strategy games. The player is also required to do some miniquests involving talking to characters and traveling to locations, which adds a small adventure game element.

The Fallout series is in a way a descendant of Interplay's 1988 "Wasteland", to which Electronic Arts retains the rights. The Fallout series takes place in a fictional post-holocaust earth inhabited by the "Vault Dwellers" who survived the fallout of the brief but deadly nuclear war of 2077 in meticulously managed underground facilities, and a variety of others who met different fates, which include, of course, mutation.

The series introduces the player to a quest of survival and adventure in an often harsh world of varied cultures, where not quite all that was good of mankind has perished, and the player may determine their own morality, skill and creativity.

Bethesda Software announced in 2004 that they had acquired the rights to produce Fallout 3 and subsequent sequels, though Interplay retained the MMO rights (and in November of 2006 set in motion a process that might lead to the funding and creation of a Fallout MMORPG.)

As of April 12, 2007 Bethesda appears to have purchased the IP to the Fallout franchise outright, as development continues.
You'll also get your first weapons and wrist computer (menu) as you get older and take tests to determine the initial layout of your skills and traits.

Every aspect of character creation is based on S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. Of your 14 skills you can tag 3 to grow at a faster rate than the rest as you level up.

Battle system is called the Vault-tec Assisted Targeting System (V.A.T.S.). The article states. "While you'll certainly be able to tackle enemies in real time using first person shooting, V.A.T.S. lets players pause time and select a target at their leisure". Battle system still uses action points, but once you've used them up you'll still be able to fight targets in real time while they charge back up.

Game is still violent and gory. One of the featured screens is of a guy's head exploding in super gory detail. Apparently all gory deaths in the game will be in slow motion.

More than one way to play the game. Go balls out and kill people, or sneak past situations, or perhaps talk your way out of situations.

Enemies can target you just like you can target them, so you can get injured in very specific points on you body. This in addition to an all new health/radiation system. This new system has you measuring how radiated certain things (like water) are and how they affect you when you consume them.

Karma system returns.

The game does not scale like oblivion, so if you enter a high level area expect to be promptly murdered.

Level cap is 20.

Definite ending to the game, but there are 9 - 12 possible endings.

There are 3 character classes — Fighter, Mage and Survivor (Thief), each with a special move. Unlike most other RPGs, the player's gender affects his/her skills, giving a total of 6 character choices to choose from.

Divine Divinity takes the player on a fantastic quest in a land torn apart by corruption and dark magic. Throughout his journeys the player will get the chance to develop his character as one of six character types, and meet a variety of people and fantastical beings. By combining the best features of the RPG genre, and introducing many new features, Divine Divinity aims to appeal to both hard-core and new RPG players.

There are four huge maps totalling over 20,000 screens, with a very wide range of environments. For instance there is an elven forest, a demon wasteland, farmlands, towns, fortifications and extensive sewer systems. The world is extremely extensive, and includes numerous small details such as epithets on tombstones.

For the player's choice of character, there are three classes and two genders, totaling six possible starters. Each has an individual appearance which can be altered by placing equipment on them, such as armour or helmets.

The three classes are Survivor (a rogue-like character), Warrior and Wizard. They have slightly different stat conversions; for example a warrior gains 6 health points per constitution point, whilst a survivor gains only five points. Each of the character classes also has a unique movement form, such as a sneak ability for the Survivor. But other than this it is a game does not use character classes—any class can use any of the other two skill paths, which each have 36 separate skills.

A random equipment generator allows an extremely wide variety of items, and in this sense it is similar to the Diablo 2 computer game. Items can be upgraded using objects called charms, as well as the enchant item skill, allowing further customisation. There are also slightly more than 50 (relatively) fixed items, with varying powers.

There are more than 150 NPC characters, many with detailed background stories and depth, and a large number of varied villains.

A very extensive and adaptive soundtrack was written by Kirill Pokrovsky for the game. RPG vault gave Divine Divinity the award for Outstanding Achievement in Music. They said, "It very proficiently supports the changing moods and locations in the game, never becoming either overwhelming or repetitive."

Seal of Evil

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/sealofevil/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

The Seal of Evil story is set in the twilight years of the Warring States period of Chinese history (476 – 206 BC). This turbulent time marks the disintegration of the longest lived of all imperial dynasties, the Zhou. Out of the strife and chaos emerges a nobleman possessed of an indomitable spirit and an uncompromising vision of the future: Ying Zheng, ruler of the Qin state. He will stop at nothing to reunite the disparate Chinese kingdoms. Combining ancient legends and mythic storytelling with historical fact, Seal of Evil sets the stage for an epic adventure wherein the players struggle to thwart the Qin invasion of their peaceful homeland, East Baiyue. Ferocious beasts, merciless enemy soldiers, wicked bandits, and terrifying supernatural foes are hazards they must face in order to achieve this goal. There is still hope for them, however, for along the way they will also make many friends and acquire powerful weapons and equipment. And armed with mighty elemental magic, they may yet come face to face with the very Gods themselves... (and they do)

Ancient Chinese philosophers believed that the whole world was made up by five basic elements, Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth. There is a kind of complicated interactional relationship amongst the five elements: Metal promotes Water, Water promotes Wood, Wood promotes Fire, Fire promotes Earth and Earth promotes Metal; Metal restricts Wood, Wood restricts Earth, Earth restricts Water, Water restricts Fire and Fire restricts Metal. The theory of the five elements reflected the traditional knowledge of ancient Chinese people towards the world and vividly described the constitution of the world and how the world worked. The Five-element philosophy is applied throughout the whole game, e.g. character's attributes, skills, equipment, making-things and puzzles in the game. Making good use of the Five-element philosophy can achieve pleasantly surprising results and make the game more interesting.

Seal of Evil introduces multiple crafting skills into the game, i.e. there are several different methods to make the same kind of equipment. Each method requires different kinds of materials and Five-element attributes. Players can master these methods via persistent exploration. The number of raw materials and ways to get the materials will be greatly increased. Players can obtain all kinds of materials from various enemies. The main equipment in the game can be upgraded through making-things system. The upgraded equipment will have greatly improved properties. In the game, players can also make medicine, refine gems and create some other items.

The five types of heroes all have their own unique features. Some skills are so powerful that they can defeat many enemies in a split second. The Five-element attributes of characters and weapons can activate the hidden functions of skills. After activation, the skills will be several times more powerful than they were previously. When confronting a large number of enemies, Martial Skills can turn defeat into victory. Players can learn skills in many ways: some books about powerful skills may be hidden in a cave or a ragged old man in the street may be a master of Kung Fu. Players will have many opportunities to learn a superior skill if they keep searching.

The game adopts a Real Time Strategy mode in combat. Players will control a small party of characters to fight against enemies. A specially designed monster AI system makes the gameplay more interesting. Some skills such as Suicide Bombing and Curse demand high skill in character manipulation. Moreover, attacking an enemy from the back will cause more damage than attacking an enemy from the front. Thus it will be worth spending some time to consider tactics before fighting. Party members, choice of skills, combinations of equipment and teamwork among heroes will play important roles in battles.

There are many side quests in the game and they will work together with the main quests to affect the endings of the game. Players can choose different ways to respond to NPCs according to their own desires. Different conversations will result in different endings. The systems of Log and Completion Status will make records of players' every step in the game. A 30% extension of the game including hidden quests and surprising endings await players' exploration.

Icewind Dale 2

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/iwd2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Icewind Dale II is a computer role-playing game developed by Black Isle Studios, released in 2002. The game is set in the Forgotten Realms Icewind Dale region, and is the sequel to Icewind Dale and its two expansions.

Like its predecessor, Icewind Dale 2 takes place long before the events described in R.A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale Trilogy made the area a well-known part of Faerûn. The plot itself is often influenced by or refers to events that happened in the original Icewind Dale.

Like the previous games in the series, Icewind Dale II is based on the BioWare Infinity Engine. The game incorporates nearly all of the changes and additions to the series made by the Heart of Winter and Trials of the Luremaster expansion packs.

Icewind Dale II was the final Infinity Engine game, and the last Black Isle Studios game released for PC. After their next game, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, they were shut down by Interplay Entertainment, their parent company.

Unlike its predecessors, the game is based on the Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition ruleset, which brings such things to the series as feats, the ability for any race to be any class, and the ability for any class to use any weapon. As in Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, the 3rd edition character classes of Barbarian, Sorcerer, and Monk are present in the game, but unlike that game there are also many sub-races, such as Drow, and Tieflings, which all have racial advantages and disadvantages.

The basic gameplay of Icewind Dale II is quite similar to that of its predecessors, as well as the other games developed on the Infinity engine. The combat system is a quasi-real-time adaptation of the normally turn-based Dungeons & Dragons combat system used - dice rolling and the like are all done automatically, without requiring the player's participation, although it is possible to pause the game at any time to issue orders to the party.

Character generation is very different from the earlier Icewind Dale games, however. Instead of the usual virtual dice-rolling process to determine the amount of strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma a character will have, the player is given a set amount of points to distribute amongst a character's various statistics. Also included are the D&D 3rd edition components of Feats and character abilities. Among other things, these replace the simple "weapon proficiencies" of previous Icewind Dale games. This, combined with inclusion of more classes and sub-classes, as well as more races and sub-races (all with their own advantages and disadvantages), makes Icewind Dale II's character generation much different from its predecessors.
Another significant change is the once more increased bestiary, which now includes such creatures as bugbears, hook horrors, and driders, as well as many returning monsters from the previous Icewind Dale game and its expansion packs, the Baldur's Gate series, and Planescape: Torment. In addition, a much larger section of Icewind Dale is explorable than in the previous games, with the game's six chapters (each broken up into around 3 thematic sections of around 2-3 maps each) providing a large amount of play value.

Icewind Dale

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/iwd/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Icewind Dale is a computer role-playing game developed by Black Isle Studios.

The game is set in the Forgotten Realms Icewind Dale region of Dungeons & Dragons, but takes place decades before the events described in R. A. Salvatore's books which popularized the area. An expansion to the game, Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter, was released in 2001.

Based on the BioWare Infinity Engine, the game features pre-rendered backgrounds, and an isometric camera perspective with sprite-based characters. This engine was used to power Black Isle Studios' previous game, Planescape: Torment. Icewind Dale is based on a real-time modification of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition ruleset.

Titan Quest

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/titanquest/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

From the co-creator of Age of Empires, Brian Sullivan, comes an all-new action role-playing game set in the mythical worlds of ancient Greece and Egypt. Amazing visuals and fast-action gameplay deliver a true cinematic gaming experience. Lush ancient world settings crafted in near-photo realistic detail provide the player with an extraordinary canvas on which to set forth on an epic quest of the ultimate good versus evil.

What sets the game apart from other action RPGs is that Titan Quest features a flexible class system that allows almost limitless ways for the player to develop their character. Skills can be customized in many ways, and never become obsolete.
That game also comes with a very versatile map/mission/campaign editor that allows users to create campaigns with their own stories and adventures.

Baldur's Gate

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/baldursgate/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Baldur's Gate was the first great daptation of the classic tabletop, role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons that reinvigorated the hardcore role-playing genre for the PC.

It offers six separate races and eight core character classes, from which the player can create a completely original character. The game world is beautifully designed in the best 2d renders of its time, and players are free to explore this wonderful game environment in any way they see fit, all against the backdrop of a thoughtfully conceived and versatile plot written by the genre's finest at Bioware.

Your adventures begin as a young orphan living with your stepfather within the safe and scholarly confines of Candlekeep on the Sword Coast. It is an idyllic life until you are forced to leave the place in order to ensure the safety of everyone within. Your stepfather is killed on the night of your journey, and it becomes clear that you are intended to be next. You, as the young protagonist, then set out to discover your true identity, which your stepfather kept from you, and your ultimate destiny.

During the adventures, you recruit a number of personable allies, battle foes, delve into dungeons, trek across wilderness, solve mysteries, and complete a plethora of epic quests that are seamlessly sown into the fabric of the overall plot. The story line unfolds in response to your choices to reveal your character's true identity as well as the nature and motive of your enemies.

Baldur's Gate is the epitome of the classic role-playing experience. It won several awards in 1998 for being the Role-Playing Game of the Year, and as such, it sets itself as the standard by which all such games will be judged. Games like Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights and Knights of the Old Republic all take inspiration from the masterpiece that is Baldur's Gate.

Nox

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/nox/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

You are tasked with destroying the wicked queen of the undead.
Welcome to the online role-playing game Asheron's Call, where thousands of players inhabit a beautiful 3D fantasy world to make friends and seek out perilous adventure. Customize your alter ego with a unique appearance and balance of heroic skills, then enter a magical frontier of terrible monsters, breathtaking vistas, and fast alliances. With over 500 square miles that offer ever more wonders to explore, Asheron's Call gives you a world of unparalleled scope and freedom, the richest setting yet for creating your personal saga or joining your friends in an epic campaign.

The sun sets in a fine shroud of mist, reddening the stucco of a cheery hilltop inn as wind sighs through the groves; in the mountains, a giant banderling shadows a warrior party amid a lulling patter of snow; and somewhere below the flagstones of the deepest Empyrean excavation, the clicking, chittering Olthoi share mad and bloody dreams. Fond human fantasies meet strange nightmares in the magical realm of Dereth. Escape into 500 square miles of hills, mountains, deserts, forests, towns, and dungeons, where no invisible boundaries interrupt your journey over the vast open spaces. With or without the stunning effects of 3D hardware acceleration, your computer becomes the window on a living world. Storms sweep the countryside, the sun sinks into the west, the moons rise and fall, and dawn creeps over the horizon.

Asheron's Call develops a heroic fantasy setting familiar enough to draw you in yet mysterious enough to draw you onward. A varied host of monsters populate the benighted, medieval terrain; mysterious artifacts of great power embellish vast treasure hoards; and sorcerers, fighters, and rogues plot both heroic alliances and base villainy. However, Asheron's Call retains a strong flavor all its own, with an original backstory and creatures, and unparalleled flexibility in character creation and development. After selecting your attire and facial features from millions of possible combinations, customize your skill set to make your character truly unique. As you defeat foes, you can allocate experience to not only specific skills but also the base attributes like strength and intelligence. And the allegiance system grants you power and prestige as you recruit followers to your service. Enter the vast and magical world of Dereth, where a new and heroic identity awaits you!
Her goal is not something as simple as world domination; but to completely conquer all of space and time.
