Autoduel is based on events in the future in the Northeast part of the U.S.. In this future, cars are a primary means of protection and defense and the highways are dangerous stretches of land ruled by gangs and vigilantes with armed vehicles. The player's character starts without a car and has to enter demolition derby contests using spare vehicles in order to raise enough capital to finance the creation of their own vehicle.

Wasteland

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wasteland/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Wasteland was one of the first successful non-fantasy RPG's that Electronic Arts produced. It's design was the basis for Dragon Wars which was later published by the same developers under another publisher.

Wasteland set the player in a post nuclear United States. Players could recruit NPC characters into their party or create new characters.

Game overview (taken from Wikipedia):

The game is set in the middle of the 21st century, following a nuclear war between the United States and the Soviet Union. Parts of Earth have been turned into a "wasteland" where survival is the paramount objective. Players control a party of Desert Rangers, a Nevada paramilitary group that survived the nuclear holocaust, and are assigned to investigate a series of disturbances in the desert. The party begins with four characters, and through the course of the game can hold as many as seven characters by recruiting certain citizens of the wasteland to the player's cause. Throughout the game the player explores the remaining enclaves of human civilization, including a post-apocalyptic Las Vegas.

Panzer Dragoon Saga

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/panzerdragoonsaga/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Panzer Dragoon Saga (titled Azel: Panzer Dragoon RPG in Japan) is a role-playing game released in 1998 exclusively for the Sega Saturn.
Although it is part of the Shining franchise, it is notable that it, like Shining Force NEO, is not a turn-based strategy game as the pre-PS2 games of the Shining Force sub-series were. Instead, it takes an action oriented approach to combat, similar in nature to the popular CRPG Diablo by Blizzard Entertainment or the Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast (also by Neverland Co., Ltd.). The year is 2019 and you are Blade Runner Ray McCoy in this 1997 Westwood Studios adventure game based loosely upon the legendary 1982 science fiction film and the Philip K Dick novel that inspired it.

Advertised as "the first real time adventure game", Blade Runner places you in a future Los Angeles, where replicants are known to be on the loose once again. The city is dark and gritty, and teaming with smatterings of the multitude of cultures who have so far resisted the beckoning recruitment to populate the "off-world" colonies.

The universe created within the game coincides with that of the movie, and is faithful to the rich, dark vision of Philip Dick, as well as film director Ridley Scott.
Trivia: Spoiler warning! In spite of a highly detailed story that obviously was painstakingly crafted, the game ending is rather notorious for falling a bit short. During the chase his ship crashes, leaving him stranded on a strange planet...

In some respects a classic, pixelated Nintendo rpg with combat and exploration, a somewhat unique element of Contact is that the player is not asked to assume the role of a fictional character in the game, but rather is enlisted by game characters to interact with them in order to overcome the hostile threat of an alien race.

Gameplay includes a real time combat system utilizing dual screens. Wifi play is implemented, though in a limited way, as by exchanging friend codes in the "Contact" area players become NPC's in each other's game.

Subtly innovated elements of classic rpg added to above average wit and interesting graphics make this game appealing to many afficiandos of the genre.
