Gladstone was not largely affected by the chaos that swept the Southern continent, and only learned of the scope of the crisis after the return of the mystic Dawn to the keep.

It is not known exactly when the Draracle departed from the Lands. Either as a result of his departure, or as a continued condition of his absence from the Lands - something has gone horribly wrong. An inexplicable shifting in the fabric of reality has caused Portals, or gateways, to appear at random locations across the Lands. Although centered on the Northern continent of Gladstone, the phenomenon is having repercussions throughout the realm.

Unfamiliar and powerful creatures have begun to emerge from the Portals. Although reports are only beginning to come in, there is concern that this limited activity will escalate. In some areas, the Portals are causing a transformation of the surrounding landscape. The inhabitants of these areas are also apparently subject to the Portals mutative properties.

In the wake of an attack by a group of these other-worldly creatures, your father Eric, brother to King Richard and heir to the throne of Gladstone, has been slain, along with both of his legitimate children. You barely managed to escape the attack, but as a result, you have been stripped of your soul. The Ancient magic of the mystic Dawn is protecting you. Without her sorcery, your soulless death would result in a painful and unavoidable eternity. You are now the sole heir to the Throne of Gladstone. Your soul is somewhere beyond the Portals, and its recovery would seem impossible.

The crisis of the Portals looms large in the Lands. Something must be done. Some would say that only an Ancient power would be capable of reversing the polarity of the Portals and closing them forever. Someone must pass through the gateways and find the departed Draracle, who may be the final hope for Gladstone, and for all of the Lands.
