Just trying to make a fun multiplayer version of those classics.

Spaceward Ho!

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/spacewardho/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

paceward Ho! is a strategic game of awesome scope. You control the entire military and economy of a spacefaring race. Your goal: explore and colonize the galaxy.

Unfortunately, you are not alone. Alien enemies bent on galactic conquest will oppose your expansion. You fight them by developing new technologies and expanding your empire, or you can ally with them to turn enemies into friends.

Terraform newly discovered worlds or mine their natural resources. Maneuver your starship fleets, both in defense of your own systems and in offensive strikes against the evil aliens. Your strategic decisions will determine the fate of the galaxy.

It's incredibly fun to play alone against the excellent computer players, and even better with other humans on the internet.

Spaceward Ho! has won numerous awards over the years, including being inducted into the MacWorld Game Hall of Fame and winning Best Network Game of the year.

The new version 5 is better than ever, with free internet play on spacewardho.net, combined fleets, new battle options, an all-new user interface, and much more.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/GalCiv2DA/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar is the expansion pack for Stardock's award-winning hit strategy game, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. This expansion pack not only adds the usual content that expansion packs tend to do such as new opponents, new units and a new campaign. It also greatly expands the game play of Galactic Civilizations II. New features include asteroid belts on the map that can be mined for resources, unique planets that require special technologies to colonize, spies to conduct sabotage and destabilization (or used to protect your worlds from the same), new types of diplomatic treaties, an enhanced artificial intelligence engine, and much more!

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/GalCiv2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Galactic Civilizations II is the sequel to 2003's hit turn-based strategy game of the same name.

The player takes on the role of the leader of a space-faring civilization and must guide its expansion in a hostile galaxy. Gamers must balance their economic, technological, diplomatic, cultural, and military power to forge alliances, fight wars, and ultimately dominate the galaxy.

The game is single-player and allows the player to play randomly generated galactic maps or play through a multi-mission campaign that tells the story of an ancient enemy called the Dread Lords.
