It is one of the most advanced RTS's to date, with a highly detailed, fully destructable world, and its own physics engine, and complete camera control, players of this game can feel involved like never before. The level of realism in the game means that unlike most other RTS's, the tactical use of your units is more important than simply outnumbering the enemy.

The campaign mode follows the allies following the assault at Normandy. The missions are nicely varied in objectives and game style, with badges to collect as bonusses at each level.

Online, you can play both tournament style and casually, with a max of 4v4. The maps are varied nicely, meaning players need to adapt their style of play to each one. Each map can be played as either annihilation, where the objective is the destroy the enemy, or as victory point, where players can also win by holding points for a length of time.

The online section of the game also includes a community with news updates, chatrooms and a buddies system.

Monkey on Your Back

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/monkeyonyourback/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

On a small, uncharted island a mysterious organization is breeding Bio-Enhanced Animal-Cyborgs at the bidding of the brilliant, albeit evil, Dr. Randolph Montague Krenwinkle. And that's it. The game might initially rekindle nostalgic childhood memories of playing with plastic toy soldiers, thanks to its clean graphics and its variety of authentic-looking World War II military units. However, Sudden Strike's simplistic, straightforward gameplay prevents the game from staying interesting for very long.

Despite how it looks, Sudden Strike is not a realistic war simulation. There may be a superficial resemblance to the Close Combat series, but Sudden Strike doesn't attempt to model any of the factors - weapon lethality, vehicle armor thickness, and unit morale - that made Close Combat a real-time wargame. Sudden Strike takes the conventional 2D isometric real-time strategy perspective and, instead of filling it with aliens or futuristic tanks, fills it with the sights and sounds of World War II. It's an interesting setting, and it gives a great first impression. However, though the graphics are superficially attractive, it can be somewhat difficult to discern different infantry types, especially behind obstacles. Nevertheless, the game does superbly reproduce a number of historical units, and this helps give Sudden Strike its realistic appearance. But that realism doesn't carry through to the gameplay, which would be fine if the gameplay had something else to recommend it. Unfortunately, it doesn't.

Call of Duty: Operation Market Garden

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/codomg/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Call of Duty: Operation Market Garden mod.
Players are able to fly World War Two era fighter aircraft and bombers, navigate capital ships and aircraft carriers, man coastal defenses, drive tanks and jeeps, control stationary weapons on the battlefield or aboard vehicles or just fight as one of five classes of infantry. Some argued that Battlefield 1942 had one of the most realistic physics and game engines available in FPSs on the market when it came out in 2002; others however, find this debatable because of certain details. For example, tanks tended to lob their projectiles (which should have had a very flat trajectory) and target leading was arguably due to game and network lag rather than programmed physics.

Each battle takes place on one of several maps located in a variety of places and famous battlefields in all of the major theaters of World War II: the Pacific, European, North African and Eastern Fronts. While the combat is always Axis Powers versus Allies, the location determines which specific armies are used (for example, on the Iwo Jima map, it is Japan versus the United States, while on the Battle of Britain map, it is Germany versus the United Kingdom). The maps in Battlefield 1942 are based on real battles, but are not necessarily realistically portrayed; an example of this is the presence of American forces on the Operation Market Garden map, even though, in reality, the Americans had no participation in the battle at Arnhem where this particular map takes place.
Medal of Honor Allied Assault was the first in a series of games under this franchise. At the time, it's style and feel were unique and in many ways ground breaking with many similar games coming after it. This is not to say that it was the first or run-away best, but one of the most common compliments seems to be that it was the first to really capture the "right feel". The weapons look, sound and play incredibly true to their real world counterparts and the settings for the missions are beautiful. This game was purchased on the strength of the first title, Codename: Panzers, Phase One. Having only played a few missions, the first impression is that it is solidly more of the same well-crafted gameplay as seen in the original title.

WarCommander

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/WarCommander/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

 From the Developer's web site:

... and that's just the beginning! More decisive battles await you and your 2nd US Ranger battalion in France. This mini masterpiece allows players to recreate World War Two in Europe. Players choose the Axis, Soviets or Allies in different scenarios of increasing complexity.
Operation Barbarossa is the first scenario covering the Axis attack on the U.S.S.R. This scenario serves as an introduction to the game covering movement, combat and production.

The Fall Of Germany Scenario adds the Allies and rules for Sea Movement, Amphibious Invasions and Forts.

The two Campaign games cover the entire war from 1939 and add the rest of the rules chiefly Research, Nationality and special units such as Tactical Air and Paratroops.

The Windows version of the game has hot seat and network play for each of these scenarios. This means 2 or 3 friends can battle it out on the same computer or over a LAN or the internet. There is no AI player or EMail support at present.

A Path Beyond

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/APB/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Men of War

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/menofwar/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss
