Description:
Worms: Armageddon is a turn based strategy game in a 2d environment. There is a single player campaign, and training missions to complete; but the main attraction is playing against other people locally or over the internet. Games can be played with 2 or more people. The graphics and sound are very cartoonish, and entertaining.

Gameplay:
Each player starts with a number of worms on their team. Each worm has a fixed amount of health. If a worm runs out of health, it will die. Once you run out of worms, you lose the match. The game is turn based, so each team gets control of one worm during their turn. You have a limited amount of time to select one of many weapons and inflict damage on another teams worm. There are also other more subtle tools to choose from for more strategic play, such as terrain digging tools, girder construction, and ropes and other means to get around the map. Weapons vary from the ordinary guns and explosives, to odd things like exploding sheep, mad cows, and homing pigeons.

There are several other popular gameplay types, with specific rules for play.

Finding online games is easy when you log onto WormNet. It's an irc-like chat interface where you can host or join games.

Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/enemyterritory/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

It's a game based on the Quake 3 engine, but it's totally different from Quake 3. It's a WWII themed FPS game, but it's not as realistic as say CoD. It has realistic textures, but the movements are Quake 3 style and it's also very fast paced like Quake 3. It's one of the best game out there in my opinion. The combination of a realistic theme with an unrealistic gameplay is just awesome. Try it out for yourself, you'll get hooked.

Defcon

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/defcon/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

You play the role of a military Commander hidden deep within an Underground bunker. Your mission - to successfully exterminate your enemy's civilian population whilst disabling their ability to attack your own. Start by launching your battleships, subs and bombers in order to decimate your opponent's defences. Scramble together your alliances but remember only one can stand victorious.

Prepare your pre-emptive strike before one of your supposed allies gets the same idea. Choose the perfect moment for betrayal, obliterating your opponents with an apocalyptic thermonuclear barrage, but get it wrong and their devastating counter attack will bring you to your knees!

It's Global Thermonuclear War, and nobody wins. But maybe - just maybe - you can lose the least.

Scorched Earth

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/scorchedearth/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Scorched Earth was a popular shareware computer game from the PC-DOS era, originally written by Wendell Hicken, in which tanks do turn-based battle in two-dimensional terrain, with each player adjusting the angle and power of his or her tank turret before each shot. Despite the simple premise (and very simple graphics, by modern standards) the game is still playable, and some find it quite addictive.

Danger from the Deep

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/dangerfromthedeep/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Danger from the Deep is a World War II german submarine simulator. The goal is to make a simulation game with strong emphasis on strategy and realism, that never the less is interesting to play.

While the game can be downloaded and played, it should be noted that the game is still in an early development stage.

Hidden & Dangerous

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/hiddenanddangerous/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Hidden & Dangerous is a 3D action-strategy game, set during the Second World War. The player is able to control a group of Allies' paratroopers in special missions in enemy territories situated throughout Europe. Thanks to the three-dimensional depiction and chosen subject, we succeeded in dynamically combining the elements of 3D action and tactical strategy. The player can control any of four commando members from several 3D views and, at the same time, he can program on a tactical map the tasks for the rest of the team. Numerous new features and ideas give the game an original and absolutely unique atmosphere. The player is drawn right into the action.

America's Army

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/americasarmy/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

America's Army is a tactical multiplayer first-person shooter owned by the United States Government and released as a global public relations initiative to help with U.S. Army recruitment.

Snow WAR

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/snowwar/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Snow WAR is a fast and furious all-out snow battle with a strategic twist! Each character on the screen can take 5 hits with a snowball before they are "out". Computer controlled kids can only be brought back into the action with a "Cocoa Run". Each time a player hits a member of the other team with a snowball, the Cocoa Meter fills up a little. Once it is full a kid will run onto the screen and revive a kid with yummy hot cocoa!
