The opposing team attempts to prevent the attacking team from carrying out this objective by tackling the player with the ball. After scoring a try the scoring team then has the right to attempt to kick a goal (worth a further two points if successful). The kick may be taken from any point on an imaginary line parallel with the touch-line and through the point where the try was scored. Despite some gameplay flaws and crude graphics the sport was faithfully recreated in its video game incarnation and its success with fans led to the production of a sequel.

Rugby League broke the global record for most pre-orders at one game retailer (EBGames Eastgardens in Sydney) that was previously set by Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Rugby League 2 was a much more polished game than its predecessor and was lapped up by fans. There is hope and demand from the fanbase for a next-generation update.
