Dr Eggman/Robotnik is at it again, attempting to take over the world with his army of robots (each one containing one of Sonic's captured friends as before), a deadly new weapon, the Death Egg and now he just needs the seven Chaos Emeralds to complete his plan. Naturally, Sonic simply can't stand by and let this happen, so he goes after the Doctor again, with Tails in tow to retrieve the Emeralds and put a stop to Robotnik's plan.
Sonic 2's gameplay is vastly similar to that of Sonic's previous adventure, a simple run and jump play-style while still maintaining the speed aspects of Sonic 1. It also introduced new opportunities of play with the introduction of Tails, such as the memorable Sky Chase Zone and the fact that Tails could spin his trademark twin-tails and fly, though players were not given control of Tails' unique ability until Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (1994). Sonic 2 also deviated from the rotating maze-style Special Zone of Sonic 1 and introduced a half-pipe style Special Zone where the player can retrieve a Chaos Emerald, a format still used in modern Sonic games such as Sonic Heroes. And this was the also the first that really introduced an incentive for collecting the Emeralds; Only when you had all of the Emeralds could you see the real ending (as in Sonic 1) AND transform into Super Sonic who was much faster and invincible as long as you kept collecting those rings. It was also the first Sonic game to introduce a multiplayer mode, where you could either race a friend in split-screen mode, or your friend could jump into the main adventure and control Tails any time.
Sonic 2 is well-renowned among gamers in general and Sonic-fans and is still regarded by many as a classic component of the early 90's gaming scene and some still refer to it as the greatest Sonic game to date.

Half-Life

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/halflife/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Named Game of the Year by over 50 publications, Valve's debut title blends action and adventure with award-winning technology to create a frighteningly realistic world where players must think to survive. It was highly successful due to its release on all three major systems at the time: Xbox, PS2 and GC. In addition, each version of the game included a character exclusive to that system. Xbox users got to play as Todd McFarlane's well-known antihero, Spawn (McFarlane also designed the character Necrid for all three versions). PS2 users were allowed to use Tekken veteran Heihachi, the only character who uses no weapon other than his fists. Solid Snake, everyone's favorite mullet-sporting supersoldier, is back, along with many other familiar faces and voices. While its predecessor was lauded for telling a complex story, this sequel has even more fascinating twists and turns. Also, like Metal Gear Solid, MGS2 takes console-game storytelling to an entirely new level with stunning in-game movies, great graphics, and game mechanics that let you find your own solutions to challenges. The game's twisting and at times bizarre plot will undoubtedly keep some gamers perplexed.

Konami has replaced the moronic enemies from the first MGS with more cerebral and capable foes; this causes an even greater emphasis on stealth than the original. The controls have been refined and Snake's repertoire of moves has grown, significantly deepening the gameplay. This is, technically and stylistically, one of the best-looking PS2 games on the market. The sound is also topnotch, with a fabulous score and outstanding voice acting. What makes this game such a standout, however, is how all of these sight, sound, and story elements combine to immerse the player into an entertainment form somewhere between movie and game. It will be years before Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty is surpassed. This is interactive entertainment at its finest. --Raymond M. He is now able to launch himself off walls at 45 degree angles at strategically placed vertical shutters, slide down chutes, and balance on swinging poles, among other things.

While in the Sands of Time and Warrior Within the player fights with a sword, in the Two Thrones the player fights with the dagger of time. The designers have also added a stealth system to the gameplay. In the past two games the player had to rely solely on open-surrounding, multi-enemy combat. The Two Thrones expands upon this by adding a speed-kill system, which allows the Prince to quickly and quietly kill any enemy not aware of his presence. The player cannot perform a speed kill on one guard if another guard can see it. If the player does not complete the speed kill, the enemy knocks them off and the speed kill fails. The amount of moves or the length of time required greatly depends on how strong the opponents are, with boss battles taking the most.

The Prince also develops a split personality, and this alter-ego constantly bickers with him about right and wrong. At times, the Prince physically transforms into the Dark Prince. These transformations are scripted and not controlled by the player. During these times, however, the player still has control over the character, and for the most part, the Prince's dark side is simply an inner voice.

When controlling the Dark Prince, the player loses the ability to wield a secondary weapon, instead using the "Daggertail," a bladed whip fused to his arm. This opens medium range combat moves (like pulling an enemy closer, then slashing them) and new interactions with the environment (such as swinging off poles to reach a ledge). The Dark Prince also constantly loses health as a result of the semi-transformation, much like the Sand Wraith from Warrior Within. He goes back to full health whenever he collects sand, from either a monster or object. Also, his Daggertail gives him a different button combination for speed kills, in which he strangles his victims. The Prince returns to normal after the player comes in contact with water.
The game is powered by the Unreal-based Deus Ex: Invisible War engine and unlike the original two titles, Deadly Shadows was developed simultaneously for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox.

You play Garrett: The Protagonist, Hero (or Anti-Hero, as many would argue), Master Thief, and Expert Assassin. Garrett is a solitary thief, who is willing to steal anything, and, if necessary, kill to get what he wants. Garrett is a simple man, with a rather large title, but who says it's easy being the greatest thief that ever lived? Pick locks, pickpocket people, mug people, scale buildings with ease (Requires Climbing Gloves; found in the shop in the Docks). Garrett's stealth knows few bounds, and he has became a legend amongst his own kind.

One of the game's major new features was the ability to explore the City. While previous games sent Garrett straight from mission to mission, Thief: Deadly Shadows allows him to walk the City streets between missions where he can steal from passersby, spy on the townspeople, and complete the occasional sidequest in addition to major story missions. Unlike games such as Grand Theft Auto III, the city is not one large continuous map, but rather several small neighbourhood maps connected by load zones.

fahrenheit

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/fahrenheit/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Indigo Prophecy is a paranormal thriller that lets you become multiple characters and view the experience from multiple viewpoints. Koei released another version of the game on the PS2 as well, "Empires", which allowed players to choose their home territory, select strategies, and attack other territories with the ultimate goal of conquering China.

Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition Remix

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/MC3/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

A remixed edition of Rockstar's street racing phenomenon for the game's Greatest Hits release. For DUB Edition and DUB Edition Remix, Rockstar has partnered with the car/celebrity magazine, DUB, which focuses on modifiable vehicles, parts, rims (actually, it seems it focuses mainly on rims), and the celebrities, racers, and athletes who drive them.

Otogi 2: Immortal Warriors

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/otogi2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Bringing 5 new playable characters to the table, Otogi 2 built off of the general concept of the original game. Raikoh returned, joined by Seimei, Suetake, Kintoki, Sadamitsu, and Tsuna. Each character offered a different weapon and play style, as well as different abilities. Once again, the highly destructible environments made play exceptionally entertaining.

Onimusha - Warlords

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/Onimisha-Warlords/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Onimusha: Warlords is the first game of the Onimusha series.
