We hope to create the ultimate version of Mario Kart (MK) by combining all of the best aspects into one game. We're not simply recreating one version of MK, but using the best parts of each. We want to have all the traditional weapons, characters, and maps but also bring out new weapons that make game-play interesting. We're redesigning the maps so that they keep their appeal, but truly utilize the power of the source engine. We plan to have at least 16 different characters, all the ones you know and love as well as some others from the Super Mario World.

Spring

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/TASpring/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Spring (formerly known as TA Spring or Total Annihilation: Spring), is a full 3D open source RTS engine originally created by the Swedish Yankspankers, intended to bring the gameplay experience of Total Annihilation into three dimensions. The core game engine is released under the GPL License; however, the prepackaged mod that comes with the standard installation requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play it. There is, however, an official release which uses fully free content, and there are a number of mods, both in development and released, that are also completely free to use.

Spring is being developed by the Swedish Yankspankers and the Spring community. The initial goal was to have the game run the mods and 3rd party units from Total Annihilation. This goal is now mostly complete, and the project has moved on to including additional features. The game is mainly focused around multiplayer games over the Internet or a LAN connection. There are currently no single player campaigns or missions, although there is some basic support for this through Lua scripting. There are also many skirmish AIs under development, allowing for offline play or extra players in an online game. Two skirmish AIs ship in the game package.

True Combat: Elite

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/tcelite/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

 What Is TrueCombat:Elite?
TC:E is a modern world total conversion modification of the free, popular, stand-alone first-person shooter Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. That is, TC:E is an entirely free game, made by gamers, for gamers.

TC:E is currently being developed by GrooveSix Studios and TeamTerminator. While TeamTerminator is known for the famous Q3 based TrueCombat series, GrooveSix Studios was initiated by retired TeamTerminator co-founder Coroner to develop a Return to Castle Wolfenstein modification that is not released. Thus, as very experienced Q3-based content creators, we hope to be able to serve the gaming community with a quality offering.
Now, the most important question: "What can you expect from TC:E?" TC:E is a tactical-team shooter, set up in a modern-world environment. TC:E puts you into the role of elite mercenary soldier in the conflicts of two internationally operating forces.

SpecOps vs. Terrors
The Global Intervention Force (GIF626) is a special force formed of the top of the world experts joining from US Delta force, UK SAS, German KSK and GSG9, to mention a few. An international mercenary organization known as "The Unit" is their opponent. It is reported that some of these dudes are were once with the above forces, but the lure of money is strong. Long ago, before the thinking races had tamed the horse or built the first cities, the rune-guardians of Ashen Empires mastered the magic of the runes, learned to control animals and plants and perhaps even weather... and then vanished.

Centuries later, the peace they had fashioned still endured. Food was plentiful, customs were calm, and people had no ancient hatreds to blind them. The thinking races — humans, night elves, orcs, and other folk — did not wage war upon one another. Wise rule, hard work, and brisk trade ensured prosperity. Knowledge was shared, dangerous beasts kept outside the frontiers, and all the land was a single nation.

It was a golden age...

But golden ages do not last forever.

The Time of Darkness
No one knows where they came from, the dark warriors. Suddenly they were everywhere, speaking languages not known to the people of Ashen Empires, seizing knowledge of the runes wherever they could find it. They used the runes to create items of terror — weapons, armor, implements of torture, objects that wrenched mind and soul. These runic devices corrupted the spirits of all who used them.

As the armies of Rune Warriors grew, so grew the resolve of the people of Ashen Empires to destroy them. The desire for peace, even the very concept of peace, was abandoned.

Lotor, a nobleman of Krythan — and later king of that region (once Ashen Empires was sundered into warring nations) — was the first great defender against the Rune Warriors. He built armies of his own, made peace among nations that had been founded upon strife, outmaneuvered his enemies, and gave hope to a world that had all but lost it.

And even though the war grew long and Lotor grew old, he found a warrior to succeed him as the hope of Ashen Empires. Talazar, the Sword of Krythan, a noble fighter no Rune Warrior could stand against, led Lotor’s armies to victory again and again.

He was a hero for all the world.

But such heroes do not last forever.

The Time of Ash
In time, the armies of Krythan defeated the Rune Warriors and assembled all their runic artifacts. King Lotor summoned his twelve greatest warriors, Talazar among them, and commanded them to take the artifacts far away — to hide them where the eyes of the thinking races would never find them. The twelve accepted their duty and rode from the capital with these items of evil.

But none ever reached his intended destination.

Each warrior — some after mere days of travel, some after months — succumbed to the corrupting influence of the rune artifacts. One by one their thoughts turned to personal gain, power, lust, revenge. One by one they abandoned paths of humility and self-sacrifice to prey upon the people of Ashen Empires.

Some became bandit-kings, leading armies of raiders into more civilized lands. Some became solitary riders, thundering through the night on missions sane folk would never understand, their names invoked only in whispers, only to frighten children. Some died, only to have their heirs accept their rune artifacts and continue their legacies of pain.

Some disappeared. This was the fate of Talazar, once the greatest of heroes. Those who saw him in the time before his disappearance say he was no longer a man, no longer quite human.

Centuries passed, centuries in which the land did not heal, the nations did not reunite, knowledge did not prosper. Beasts crept into once-civilized lands. Kings fought kings even when the rune artifacts had no part to play in their squabbles.

This was a time of slow, inescapable suffering.

But even times such as this do not last forever.

The Time of Renewal
In recent years, prophecies have hinted that a new era was dawning, a time of change and instability, a time when the ugly balance of the Time of Ash could be lost... for better or for worse.

Sixteen summers ago, in the nation of Krythan, a boy-child of Lotor’s line was born and given the name Lotor. He survived to reach his age of majority and this summer not long ago received the crown of Krythan, taking the royal name of Lotor II.

Not long after, military forces claiming to belong to Talazar began laying waste to towns and cities in the western regions. They claimed not to follow some descendant of the original Talazar, but the corrupted warrior himself, and tales filtering from those distant places say that he is now a demon, a thing of inhuman places and unknowable intent.

Heroes, men and women skilled in fighting, have become more numerous in recent summers, some flocking to the side of Lotor II, some joining the forces of Talazar, others seeking their own way in this increasingly turbulent land.

And you are one of them.

Your skills and courage are enough to make you the master of any little village, the champion of any petty nobleman... but that is not enough. The challenge this new era poses calls to you. You can tip the balance of power — toward Lotor, toward Talazar, toward some fate no one can predict.

This chance waits before you, but you must act soon.

Fraser's Ride

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/frasersride/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

FROM THE TEAM THAT BROUGHT YOU FANCY PANTS ADVENTURES (Tommy did some stuff too)

Turbulence

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/turbulence/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Desktop Tower Defense

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/desktoptd/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Desktop TD is a fun flash based puzzle / strategy game where you have to protect your desktop from invaders by spending money on attacking pieces and building a maze for them to follow. The game is themed after another game which is being developed by Flagship Studios called Hellgate: London. The project was started under an unknown title as just a 2D engine. Soon after the announcement of Hellgate: London in 2005 gave Taylor Balbi the drive to turn his 2D Engine into a 2D Sidescrolling Game.

The team has been forever changing as have the graphics. The original character was only 46px tall and was replaced by the beauty you see here. The design for the game came from one principle discovery. The discovery was that Bill Roper and the gang at Flagship Studios were as big of fans of Shaun of the Dead as Taylor Balbi was. If Hellgate: London is going to have a cricket bat, so will HGL:16.

Originally the game was being created using the C Programming Language, but due to laziness and intrigue, Taylor Balbi switched his efforts over to Game Maker 6.1. The simplicity of the utility made development less of a strain while only bring one draw back, no Vista support.

Thousands of years ago a species that would later call
themselves "Lutians" rose from the center point of Yue,
known as "Vita Genero." These strange creatues had an ability
forsaken to all other creatures; conscious thought. The Lutians
view the Yue as a source of power and use it for many purposes
including magic.

Many Lutians believe that they were chosen by the Yue,
others believe that they, like other living things were the
result of random creations by it . This led to many
wars and still divides many lutians today.

Over the last hundred years some very strange things
have emerged very close to Vita Genero, where the first
Lutians emerged. These creatures came to be known as the
Nosaeron. They have caused many kingdoms to fall around vita genero,
and seem to have no purpose other than to destroy all life.

Now two kingdoms, Patrian and Ipcus, are fighting over the
nature of these creatures, The king of Patrian believes that
these creatures have somehow disrupted the Yue to use their power
to rule the world, and the king of Ipcus believes that the Nosaerons were
created by the Yue to get rid of the Lutians. The one and only thing the
two kings can agree on is that they must find the true nature of these creatures
and stop them at all costs. Both kings have ordered a call to arms of all their citizens
to discover the true nature of the Nosaerons, and seal them away forever.

General Notes

Illutia is a 2d anime mmorpg began under the original name
"Aspereta" In April of 2003. It was released mostly just as a test
run to see if there was still a market for 2d mmorpgs. Aspereta
became more popular than the small team ever imagined with over
50,000 accounts in less than a year. This encouraged Crazed Monkeys
to push hard to meet the expectations of their fans.

Now as of June 2005 Illutia (formerly Aspereta) is finally ready for
beta. We hope you enjoy this new version of the game as it is capable
of much more than we could have dreamed of for Aspereta.

Blastforce is a freeware top-down shooter set in the year 2917. It is being developed with the Gamemaker 6.1 (but may be changed to GM 7.0 in the future). I have been working on the idea behind it for about 10 years (the story behind it was originally written by me as a hobby). Currently, the game is being developed by myself and a friend (with another helping me with my concept artwork). We still have quite a lot to do still!

Features

In the game you will be able to fly a wide variety of aircraft- interceptors, bombers, space-helicopters, and even the odd go on the gun turret. There will also be a number of ground-based missions in the game. The game's graphics are (or will be) in a anime-ish, super nintendo kind of style.

Situation

The game is still in early stages, and newcomers are welcome. At the moment we need:
-Coders
-Pixel artists
-Manga artists

There are also other jobs available. Please leave me a message if you are interested.

Nuttz

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/nuttz/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Welcome to Wonderful Woodland, squirrel! Maybe there aren't any nutts left so you can gather them for winter, but your neighbour sure has lots of them. You never really liked him, did you? Take his nutts and add them to your stash!

Nuttz is a game for two players, based on Capture The Flag. Each player controls one of insanely-quick squirrels and tries to run over to his opponents base (middle hollows), steal the nut, and stash it in his own base. You can only carry one nut at a time. If you stomp the enemy mario-like, he will be immobilized for 1 second, and will lose the nut he was carrying. From time to time, like in every normal forest, on middle-top platform spawns magical FreezeGem, which will immobilize your opponent for 5 seconds, he will not lose the nut however. You can use bottom and top hollows for quick transfers between levels. First player to get 10 nuts wins. You see amount of nuts in player1 and player2 bases in top left and top right corners respectively.

Blah Blah. Game is still in development (one reason why it's insanely fast is no framerate independency ;)). Want to add 1 or 2 more features, and then eventually totally rewrite code cause it's fugly. Nevertheless, it plays nice on my comp, and that's all that matters, right?

Gradipus (working title)

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/Gradipusthegame/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

This is one of the games I am working on with Chaosepoch (Whose Profile can be found here: http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/user/snowfox), this one being a less serious one that we probably won't put into commercial use.

I am always brimming with ideas for games, but lack the ability to programme them, so on one of my many brain farts I created some levels, a scenario and characters, all for this side scrolling shooter game.
Chaosepoch actually took a liking to the idea (he likes coding games) and agreed to code the game for me.

So far all we have is one example level (i.e. a level that won't be used in the game once it's coded properly) and the basic game play structure (i.e. side scrolling, and shooting).

There are only two of the 29 enemies present in this demo clip and none of the power-ups, special moves, or anything like that.
This is merely just a little taster of what I am working on, and nothing here is set in stone.
The only thing that is definite is that the main character is a flying platypus that shoots eggs from it's bill.
Yep.

You play as a Platypus who has been sucked into a bizarre under water world of monsters, clowns and toilets who all want to kill you.
There are plenty of weird bosses too, such classics as one boss being a giant robot giraffe who hurls newts at you, and another being a giant floating mans head which resembles a tea pot his skull opens up to reveal a soggy tea bag which you have to hit to do him damage.

A lot of work needs to be done, this is FAR from finished...

1)Intro, What is a TD ?

Well, some weeks ago I said I would update this section. I finally did.

- For those who already know what a 'Tower Defense' is, I will just say, this one use the main features of them, but I'll also add my own.
- For those who don't, Tower Defense consist of a map, on which monsters spawn from a defined spot, and walk on a path. You got to build towers along this path to kill those monsters. You can upgrade those towers, and research some advanced one.
Tower defense was made popular by the warcraft 3 modification and 'Master of Defense'.

2)Features

The game is still under development, but some features are already done (or at least 'playable').
-You'll be able to choose several game mode, classical TD, contineous spawn, labyrinth, checkpoint and so on, i'll explain all of those once the game is released.
-You start with the ability to build 4 basic towers: ground, air, ice, and a ground splash, from there you'll earn new towers as the level in research increase.
-You can use 'knowledge' points, tu upgrade tower element (like fire, air, ice, etc...-, to sell tower for a more good price and earn more money on each kill. Those knowledge pool are also needed to the advanced and elite towers.
-An editor, people who like the game will be able to make theyr own map, and it will become available for the community.
-A random map generator: You can choose to play pre-made maps or to generate random maps, you won't play the same map twice if you don't want to!
-Once the game is released, multiplayer support will be added, a tournament/ladder aswell.
-All of those features will be available when the game is release, but once it is, i'll work on a multiplayer gamemode.

Dream Sower

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/dreamsower/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

You are the Dream Sower, a device that can enter dreams and alter them. Please give feedback! Thanks! games@digitalblur.com

How to play Space Rocks Beta v0.3:

-Control the ship by moving the target cursor with the mouse and press 'W' or the right mouse button.

-Additionaly you can use the 'A' and 'D' keys to rotate the ship left or right (currently needs work).

-Shoot the asteroids with the left mouse button or the spacebar.

-Pause the game by pressing 'P'

-Use your ammo and thruster sparingly, you have a limited amount. Watch the icons in the upper left corner to monitor your levels. Pick up the powerups with an 'A' to recharge your ammo and powerups with a 'E' will restore your thruster energy.

-The ship icon in the upper left corner of the screen will turn darker red every time an asteroid hits your ship and will be on fire when your damage is critical mass. Pick up the powerups with the '+' in the middle to recharge your sheilds and restore the ships health. It is on loan so - you break it you buy it...

-You can pick up powerups after you destroy certain asteroids.

Have Fun!
