In the single-player campaign, players revisit the war-torn world of Azeroth. Several months have passed since Archimonde and the Burning Legion were defeated at the battle of Mount Hyjal, yet a new threat has arisen throughout the land.

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wc3-roc/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

It has been nearly fifteen years since the war between the orcs and humans ended. An uneasy peace settled over the land while, for years, the drums of war were silent. Yet the kingdoms of men grew complacent in their victory - and slowly, the defeated orcish clans regrouped under the banner of a new visionary leader.

Now a darker shadow has fallen over the world, threatening to extinguish all life - all hope. The drums of war play upon the winds once again - rising urgently towards the inevitable hour when the skies will rain fire - and the world will tremble before the coming of the Burning Legion.

Tower Defense

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/towerdefense/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

 Developer: Roman Sanine

Since WarCraft 3 I have had a strange fascination with tower defense games. I really like slow strategic games with virtually infinite possibilities. To a passive onlooker tower defenses may not seem very in depth. It appears that you simply are placing towers next to paths to kill creatures before they can get to the center. In truth these games can be quite complex. You need to decide what towers to build, where, when and at what stage they should be upgraded. (and to which degree)

Building the right tower a square in the wrong direction or a round to late can mean the difference between a stonewall and a leaky defense. If you are playing a team tower defense you will certainly be called a noob if you leak before the later rounds.

This tower defense lacks tower diversity in that all towers only have a range and damage rating. It is much more exciting when you have towers that have special effects even if its as simple as a set of land and air towers. The one thing this TD does have that seems to be unique is a never ending cycle. Basically each round monsters get progressively stronger until they breach walls. This is great but it would be much better with a leader board.

Enfo's Team Survival

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/enfo/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Enfo's Team Survival is a popular modification for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. It was originally developed by Enfo, but has since been released openly and is being continued by many modders. It is loosely based upon tower defense maps. Players are divided into two teams and choose their heroes at the start of the game. They cannot directly engage in combat with the other team. Instead, they fend off waves of monsters in order to survive for longer than their enemies.

Wintermaul Wars

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wmw/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

One of the most popular mods for Warcraft III, Wintermaul Wars hit its peak playing during summer 2006, when any game would immediatly fill up, and almost all you would see on the custom games list is "WMW!!!!! or WINTERMAULWARZ!1!1!1". Wintermaul Wars is actually a spin off of the slightly less popular but more modded Wintermaul.

In Wintermaul wars, you have a "base" unit, usually represented as a boat. You have 1-2 buildings (unit-creator, or UC) to create units at, and you can not control the units created. Instead, they are automatically sent to the enemy's base unit. If they are able to reach the enemy's base unit and touch it, the enemy looses one point off their score or 25 (which is changeable depending on the version of WMW in play). You must build towers from a huge selection to defend your base unit, while sending units to bypass and overwhelm your enemy's defences.

Another crucial element of Wintermaul Wars is your income. Whenever you kill an enemy unit, you get gold to spend. There is 4 basic ways to spend that gold. If you buy a unit at your UC, 2 of that unit are sent to your enemy to attack him/her. You also add an ammount to your income when you buy a unit, so it looks like this:

Unit A: Costs 5g: 1g per turn added, so you gain it back after 5 turns.

Unit B: Costs 10g: 2g per turn added, so you gain it back after 5 turns

Unit C: Costs 52 gold: 14g per turn added, so now when you buy this, you gain your gold back faster

If you continued to buy unit C, you would eventually gain more money than someone who only bought Unit A and B, because the 1g you are investing if worth more in your income.

You can also build a tower, or upgrade an existing tower. All towers in Wintermaul Wars take up 1 map square, so you can fit a lot of things in one space.

With nearly 100 units to buy in some versions, and 600+ towers to build and upgrade, Wintermaul Wars takes a lot of micro to be successful at. You must select the correct race (this decides what your towers cost, their damage, speed, range, and any special abilities, plus what towers you can build and if they can be upgraded). The perfect blend of building, attacking, income-gaining, and picking the correct race for the situation at hand is needed for victory. Wintermaul Wars may be best thought of as a mix of chess and checkers without any turns. Your units must reach the opponent before his reach you, but there is a huge diversity in what units do.

If all of this daunts you, don't be turned off from playing. Wintermaul Wars has a very gentle learning curve, and it's pretty hard to get worse once you're good at it, no matter how long you go without playing.

Sadly, the player base for Wintermaul Wars is now less than before, due to a mass movement to the ever-so-popular World of Warcraft. However, the online service for Warcraft III and the Frozen Throne is free, so give it a try. Servers are rare, but they get filled up very quickly as veteran B.net players remember the good times they've had.

Tower Defense Extreme

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/tdextreme/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Flash Tower Defence

1)Intro, What is a TD ?

Well, some weeks ago I said I would update this section. I finally did.

- For those who already know what a 'Tower Defense' is, I will just say, this one use the main features of them, but I'll also add my own.
- For those who don't, Tower Defense consist of a map, on which monsters spawn from a defined spot, and walk on a path. You got to build towers along this path to kill those monsters. You can upgrade those towers, and research some advanced one.
Tower defense was made popular by the warcraft 3 modification and 'Master of Defense'.

2)Features

The game is still under development, but some features are already done (or at least 'playable').
-You'll be able to choose several game mode, classical TD, contineous spawn, labyrinth, checkpoint and so on, i'll explain all of those once the game is released.
-You start with the ability to build 4 basic towers: ground, air, ice, and a ground splash, from there you'll earn new towers as the level in research increase.
-You can use 'knowledge' points, tu upgrade tower element (like fire, air, ice, etc...-, to sell tower for a more good price and earn more money on each kill. Those knowledge pool are also needed to the advanced and elite towers.
-An editor, people who like the game will be able to make theyr own map, and it will become available for the community.
-A random map generator: You can choose to play pre-made maps or to generate random maps, you won't play the same map twice if you don't want to!
-Once the game is released, multiplayer support will be added, a tournament/ladder aswell.
-All of those features will be available when the game is release, but once it is, i'll work on a multiplayer gamemode.

World of Warcraft

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wow/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Four years have passed since the aftermath of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and a great tension smolders throughout the ravaged world of Azeroth.
