The seven kingdoms united into an uneasy alliance and built a citadel as a meeting place, which was named Avalon.<br />

Within the land is a civilization of nomads known as the Sha'ahoul. Their religion values very highly the earth and nature and therefore they are against farming, the building of permanent structures, and similar practices which they feel destroys the earth. After discovering the existence of Eurale, they declared war on the seven kingdoms to eradicate their way of life.<br />
<br />
Many refugees of the destruction caused by the Sha'ahoul took shelter in Avalon. The seven kingdoms sent military support to defend Avalon and the refugees. To the people of Eurale, Avalon is seen as the last hope at stopping the Sha'ahoul. The Sha'ahoul and their leader, Mithras, chose to overtake the citadel by setting up a siege around it.<br />
<br />
The game begins with an entry in the hero's journal. The siege has been going on for several years. His brother, Corvus, serves as part of the military in Avalon. When their father dies, the hero feels that it is his obligation to inform Corvus of the sad news, so he becomes part of the crew of a ship sailing from Elythria to Avalon to deliver supplies. The Sha'ahoul manage to sink all of the ships except the one the hero is on. The ship reaches Avalon, but has lost most of its supplies. It is not possible to make a return voyage to Elythria and so the hero decides to stay at Avalon, inform Corvus of their father's death, and help out Avalon in whatever manner he can. There are several beginning scenarios, ranging from being simply lost in wilderness, to a failed hunting trip where your father was killed by a bear, to fleeing from eastern Njerpez-slavers. <br />
<br />
The game is non-linear, and doesn't have a plot, but relies mostly on player-driven freeform exploration and everyday survival. The player can manufacture virtually all items required for survival: Clothing from fur gained from hunting, food from fishing, hunting or agriculture, and shelter by the means of a temporary spruce twig cover, or an entire timber cabin if the player chooses to build it. If the player wishes, you can even go to villages and start courting the girls, and get married. <br />
<br />
There are four courses in the game, where one is free roaming, and the other three offer advice, and required items for pursuing anything from hunting, to long term survival and exploration and advanced adventuring.<br />
<br />
The game is surprisingly easy to play, once you get used to the controls. The only downfall is the graphics, but considering that it's a roguelike, they are pretty impressive. One of the game's definite merits is the atmosphere, and how enjoyable the daily survival can be. All the features included are difficult to pursue with a single character, so making more after finishing with one is almost a must, if you wish to explore all the gaming options. <br />

The trial has a time limit of 10 game days, and some restrictions, but plays almost like the full version.<br />

Once he arrives, he sees that all traces of the natives have disapeared, the only things that inhabit the planet are strange monsters and the Robots created by the Natives. Galanz (The Main character in the game) goes out searching for any survivors, or clues to what has happened. Using his weaponry and his Psychic Abilities, he traverses the planet in order to discover just what is going on.<br />
<br />
Influences are highly based on classics such as Metroid, Turrican, and the Andro-Synth sub-plot present in Star Control 2/Ur-Quan Masters. <br />
<br />
The goal of the game is to basically find out what's going on. The &quot;Galious&quot; style gameplay is a reference to Knightmare 2: Maze of Galious, which was one of THE first Side Scrolling RPGs, complete with leveling and such. Of course, I'd like to go a little bit into more detail with this than what Galious did. <br />
<br />
Since it's set to be like a NES game, there will be a restriction on the total buttons able to use, the current format it (in NES Controller format):<br />

A - Shoot<br />
B - Jump<br />
Directional Pad - Move Left and Right, Aim Up and Down.<br />
Start - Main Menu<br />
Select - Use Psychic Ability<br />
<br />
Psychic abilities won't be the usual &quot;Fire Firebolt for X amount of P.P&quot; but instead will be closer to actually changing the environment.<br />

Can't jump over a huge wall? Flip gravity around. Can't toggle a switch? Go into E.S.P mode and flip it using your abilities. Oh snap, need to get the password, and the guy who might of had it is dead? Do a Mind Search on him, and find out his memories shortly before he met the wrong end of your gun.<br />
<br />
This is the sorta thing I'm aiming for with this, not extremely complicated (mind sceens could just be cutsceens, and gravity for an object can easily be reversed), but fun and useful enough to warrant use.<br />
<br />
However, I don't believe I can do this all by my own. As a Sprite/Traditional Artist or Designer, I will not be able to produce content fast enough alone, and coding is far from my strongest point. Iter Vehemens ad Necem (IVAN) is a free graphical roguelike game, which currently runs in Windows, DOS and Linux. Unlike most roguelikes, which use ASCII graphics, IVAN uses an SDL-based tile graphics engine. This allows much more information to be displayed in the level map. For example, when the player or some monsters wield a weapon or wear armor, it's normally visible on the map. Also, several types of fluids (such as acid, blood, vomit, etc.) are visible on the map. This makes it possible to track a wounded monster by following a trail of blood across the dungeon.<br />
<br />
IVAN employs an advanced bodypart handling system. In battle, one loses only if the head, torso, or groin is destroyed. If one's arms or legs take too much damage, they become severed, and the player will merely become disabled, and unable to wield a weapon with that hand, or have to bear greater burden. Many monsters can lose body parts as well. There are several ways to replace or reattach a lost limb, such as drinking healing potions or praying.<br />
<br />
Another unique feature is the handling of materials. Each item, including body parts, has a material associated with it. There are several ways to change materials, such as scrolls or praying. For example, a hardened leather body armour may become significantly stronger if transmuted into a meteoric iron one. Created originally by eggmceye to be a rogue-like game named Balrog in 1998, it was quickly turned into an Ultima-like game with the discovery of an Ultima 4 tileset created by Josh Steele, giving the game its retro feel. Over the past nine years, it has slowly evolved into an online RPG with a small but growing fanbase spanning two servers, each one incorporating slighty different gameplay.<br />

In those nine years, the game has grown from a four player only server to one that incorporates a full Ultima V magic system, including the Runic alphabet, crafting and creature taming. This has been in development in a while.  There is still a good deal of work to do to finish this and I'm reevaluating how I can best do this. Right now I'm planning on a more focused version. Focusing on the action of hand to hand weapons combat, and less on the magic casting and deep role playing aspect. There will still be magic but not the more complex type I have been planning for. Avatar started originally as a class exercise in validating forms in PHP, but ended up becoming a full-fledged web game.  There's 3-4 hours of playtime, but it is still quite incomplete.  <br />
   The project might become active again in the future, in which you can expect: implement AJAX, character classes, abilities and skills, and other stuff!<br />

The objective of the project is to bring the fun and depth of roguelike gameplay, kicking and screaming,  into the third dimension. Storyline<br />
In the year 64AD (after the Great Fire of Rome) Nero built the Domus Aurea (or &quot;Golden House&quot;).  This is the story that is known.  The story that is not common is the secret that the Domus Aurea hides and of your adventures within.<br />
<br />
It is now 5 September 476 AD and yesterday Romulus Augustus was deposed (history will show that he will not be replaced).  During Rome's fall stories of a powerful secret hidden within the catacombs of the Domus Aurea have surfaced, and being the curious type that you are, you have set out to find the truth or fiction of them.<br />
