This game was developed as an entry to the gamedev.net 4e4 contest which required that it encorporate at least 2 of the following four elements (elements of which ALL games are apparently made of): pirates, ninjas, robots and zombies.

I opted for robots and zombies because robots are easy to model and zombies are easy to animate ^_^
The contest had a 6 month time limit, so I wanted to make sure I didn't bite off more then I could chew. In the end I came in 2nd out of at least 20 - the 1st place finisher was developed by 5 people! so even though I didn't win I felt like the game did very well and the process was rewarding.
The mod includes nine of your favorite characters who are able to duke it out using numerous beam attacks as well as close hand to hand combat. ESF mixes both elements to bring players intense fast paced with a twist of strategy. Each character is geared towards a different style of play. Some are meant to mainly use energy attacks, while others have the advantage in melee fights.
No matter what style of fighting you like to use, esf has a way to accomadate you.
The point of the game is to get the highscore. Challenge your friends and enemies to beat your score. If they are unable, point and laugh at them.
However, you share the same thought with over a thousand other people!

Shopper Rush is a 2D game in where you control a single character in a sea of AI players. Some levels will throw over 1200 AI players at you at the same time and your job is to get from one side of the shopping mall to the other, and be one of the 30 first customers in order to get your long-awaited gadget.

You also have a couple of tricks in order to get there before everyone else does. You can bump into people so they'll fall, you can push tables and other objects in their way, sprint past them or even spin around and make everyone around you fall. Great if you're stuck somewhere!

The basic game mechanics are based on group behavior and flow dynamics. For example; If 100 people are rushing to the stairs, chances are that it will clog up and you're probably better of taking the slightly longer route around it.

The game is a 5 week project at the University Of Skövde and deadline for the game is February the 16:th. It is also participating in the Swedish Game Awards.

Illutia

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/illutia/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

 The Beginning

Thousands of years ago a species that would later call
themselves "Lutians" rose from the center point of Yue,
known as "Vita Genero." These strange creatues had an ability
forsaken to all other creatures; conscious thought. The Lutians
view the Yue as a source of power and use it for many purposes
including magic.

Many Lutians believe that they were chosen by the Yue,
others believe that they, like other living things were the
result of random creations by it . This led to many
wars and still divides many lutians today.

Over the last hundred years some very strange things
have emerged very close to Vita Genero, where the first
Lutians emerged. These creatures came to be known as the
Nosaeron. They have caused many kingdoms to fall around vita genero,
and seem to have no purpose other than to destroy all life.

Now two kingdoms, Patrian and Ipcus, are fighting over the
nature of these creatures, The king of Patrian believes that
these creatures have somehow disrupted the Yue to use their power
to rule the world, and the king of Ipcus believes that the Nosaerons were
created by the Yue to get rid of the Lutians. The one and only thing the
two kings can agree on is that they must find the true nature of these creatures
and stop them at all costs. Both kings have ordered a call to arms of all their citizens
to discover the true nature of the Nosaerons, and seal them away forever.

General Notes

Illutia is a 2d anime mmorpg began under the original name
"Aspereta" In April of 2003. It was released mostly just as a test
run to see if there was still a market for 2d mmorpgs. Aspereta
became more popular than the small team ever imagined with over
50,000 accounts in less than a year. This encouraged Crazed Monkeys
to push hard to meet the expectations of their fans.

Now as of June 2005 Illutia (formerly Aspereta) is finally ready for
beta. We hope you enjoy this new version of the game as it is capable
of much more than we could have dreamed of for Aspereta.

About the Developers

We're a group of hardworking gamers, programmers, musicians,
artists, and volunteers who are still in love with 2d games and
refuse to let them die out! We are also huge fans of the anime
genre! We hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it!

At 0400 hours, we received confirmation from NASA that an asteroid field larger than any recorded in the history of civilization is headed for a direct collision course with Earth. If just one of these asteroids were to hit Earth's surface, the impact would measure at approximately 50 megatons - 4,000 times the explosive power of the fission bomb used on Hiroshima.

Our entire military fleet is currently at war with the Martians and, as fate would have it, the asteroid field is too far away from Mars to reassign a Commander. You are the only armed ship within reach of the field.

Your mission is simple: Eliminate all asteroids. Our information sources believe gravitational forces have banded the asteroid field into eight waves. This will provide time between each wave to repair your ship.

Scientific analysis has shown the asteroids' outer shells are coated in almandine carconite, a rare, highly explosive mineral which is normally only safe at extremely low temperatures. This means a single shot from a laser turret will suffice to blow the asteroid into pieces, but be warned! The explosion will be so large that you are advised to stay well back. A severe explosion could interfere with your guidance systems, or ultimately obliterate your ship.

The entire fate of the world rests in your hands. Good luck.

DUOtris

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/duotris/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

DUOtris is a take on Tetris (GB). Instead of blocks coming from the top, and fall down, blocks come from both top and bottom, and gravitate towards the middle.

The aim of the game is to get the highest score possible. Points are scored by moving the falling blocks on both sides of the play area so as to arrange 3 or more blocks of the same colour together. These blocks will then disappear causing any blocks "above" them to fall and possibly create further combinations. The game ends when either stack of blocks crosses the game over line. Over time the speed of the blocks increases, more colours are introduced and the play area becomes narrower.

There are two different game modes: Classic where there are just blocks falling, and Arcade where you get powerups and special blocks.

A Mini Falafel Adventure

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/falafel/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Episode 1 of a Gameboy-style platform adventure game.
