Jack is certainly not the sharpest sword in the armory, but he is willing to do anything to help his friends. The story is pretty simple but is still lots of fun. This game never takes itself too seriously and is very humorous to play.
Based on the cutsey graphics alone you would be forgiven for writing the game off as a sacharine dud but thats hardly worth your time.
Hardly the case of course, as Viva Pinata is part harvest moon part Sim City.

The goal is to create a fully functioning habitat pleasant enough to attract any number of candy based life forms to settle down.
Distubingly enough, in order to do this, you have to encourage certain pinatas to not only mate, but also to hunt down weaker pinatas for dinner. Break one and their candy litters the ground while a chorus of kids scream with delight.
Do I need to qualify that statement?

Well, can you name another shooter-ignore REZ for the moment-featuring a psychedelic techno score that would make Yanni blush? Figured as much. When was the last time you played a shooter where the primary objective is to self destruct and thereby eliminate enemy ships in order to chain combos?

Nothing comes to mind? Can you name another shooter in which you can do all this whilst a kindly Japanese man whispers "extend" in your ear as you collect power-ups? Nuff said.
Although Every Extend has recently released on PSP you may or may not know that the original PC game is widely available for download: due to language barriers we've taken the liberty of directly linking you to the files so don't miss out. Beneath the city lurks a deadly dungeon full of perils and treasure. But most of the action and tough decisions take place when the young woman is in and around town, trying to find her place in this life and unravel the mystery of her past. Find romance, find a job to pay for fighting lessons, or spend time as a street musician learning your trade and playing for tips. This is not your traditional dungeon - delving, dragon-slaying tale! It's something of "The Sims" meets "Princess Maker" meets "Dungeons and Dragons".
Everyday decisions such as where to work, what to learn in school, or how to handle one's social life has an effect not only upon your short-term wealth and well-being, but has long-standing ramifications in what your character will eventually become as she reaches full adulthood.
The fine soundtrack is but one of the seminal areas of inspiration;in fact, a majority of the most prominent Zelda themes -such as Zelda's Lullaby and Kakariko Village tunes; even the name entry music-were directly lifted from A link to the past's musical score.

Between the environmentally based dungeons, two distinct realms, hookshot and punt-able chickens, it's clear to see that the original Legend of Zelda merely provided the canvas and a rough sketch of the series whereas A Link to the Past served as a the charcoal and oil paints.

Yes A link to the Past is truly a Bob Ross inspired happy little tree in the corner of the masterwork that is the Legend of Zelda series.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/zelda2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Looking for Bagu? Try the woods, and if you survive you'll find an overlooked classic truly ahead of it's time. Upon release, Zelda 2 was much maligned for deviating from an established formula: instead of the top down view of the original, Zelda 2 shook things up quite a bit by not only shifting to a side-scrolling perspective, but also adopting a myriad of role playing elements.

The fact that the game is brutally difficult in comparison to Zelda 1 didn't help to enhance the game's popularity but if you can get past that you'll be rewarded with deep gameplay and a rewarding sense of accomplishment and a game that would seem to have inspired many more contemporary 2D rpg-lite games such as Symphony of the Night.

Planetfall

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/planetfall/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

After the fall of the Second Galactic Union in 1716 GY, a ten-thousand-year dark age settled upon the galaxy. Interstellar travel was non-existent, and many star systems descended into a near-barbaric state, buring coal and gas for energy, and growing food directly from exposed topsoil.

In 11,203 GY, a treaty between the Empires of Tremain and Galium formed the Third Galactic Union. Ships of the Stellar Patrol (a pseudo-military wing of the Union government on Tremain) began exploring the galaxy, searching for the human civilizations that are the remnants of the Second Galactic Union.

You are a native of the planet Gallium. Although it is one of the most politically powerful worlds in the Union, Gallium is no garden spot. In fact, the Gallium Chamber of Commerce brochure entitled "Ten Great Reasons to Visit Gallium" ends on page 3. The author ran out of reasons after listing just two.

For five generations, your family has served in the Stellar Patrol. Your great-great-grandfather was a High Admiral and one of the founding officers of the Patrol. It was taken for granted that when you came of age you would join up.

Now, more than a year after signing up, and two months after being transferred to the S.P.S. Feinstein, you are still only ranked Ensign Seventh Class. You superior officer, Ensign First Class Blather, has been making your life miserable. Players can select from four factions each of which has a unique look for it's units and a specifically voiced adviser (although all four have identical capabilities) and compete alone or in teams against other humans (locally or via the net) or the assorted Bots that are included. Competition takes place on a variety of terrain, sometimes barren and empty sometimes green and full of rivers.

Once a battle is started, players take turns using a limited supply of energy to launch weapons against their enemies or launch new buildings to expand their base. Both are done with a simple aim and force interface similar to Worms or most early golf games so it takes some skill to land a building exactly where you want it. Because buildings are connected to your main hub with a web of power lines, careful planning is required to avoid leaving important nodes unprotected. There are 18 different weapons and buildings each with an energy cost based on how powerful and useful it is. Ultimately, you must destroy an enemy's main hub unit to eliminate him from the battle.
Moonbase Commander has a minutes to learn, lifetime to master quality. There's never enough energy to do everything you want to and your opposition is always breathing down your neck. Should you risk a tricky shot to place an expensive shield generator by your hub or just settle for launching waves of cheap cluster bombs at those enemy anti-air batteries in hopes of overwhelming them. Maybe you should just bide your time and send up a few more observation balloons. The possibilities are surprisingly limitless in this simple yet complex game.
