How to play Space Rocks Beta v0.3:

-Control the ship by moving the target cursor with the mouse and press 'W' or the right mouse button.

-Additionaly you can use the 'A' and 'D' keys to rotate the ship left or right (currently needs work).

-Shoot the asteroids with the left mouse button or the spacebar.

-Pause the game by pressing 'P'

-The ship icon in the upper left corner of the screen will turn darker red every time an asteroid hits your ship and will be on fire when your damage is critical mass. Pick up the powerups with the '+' in the middle to recharge your sheilds and restore the ships health. It is on loan so - you break it you buy it...
The game can be considered a multi-scrolling shooter, in that there are horizontal and vertically scrolling levels, although the ship does not change orientation when this happens.

Like many scrolling shooters, the player initially has a basic shot, which can be upgraded and/or exchanged for different weapons, as well as gain smaller ships that follow the player's ship around and copy its attacks. As is usual, these powerups are distributed throughout the levels, and are lost when the player dies.

Two additional mechanics differentiate Arrow Flash from similar scrolling shooters, one of which is that the ability to transform the player's ship. The two forms available are a humanoid mecha form and a typical jet form. The player's weapons change depending on the form. The jet form only shoots forward, while the the mecha form can fire diagonally; helper ships mimic the jet's actions but stay in a fixed formation behind the mecha. The game's titular "Arrow Flash" is a highly powerful attack for each form; the jet fires five large blasts forward, while the mecha form becomes engulfed in flame, rendering it immune to attack for a short while. Depending on the options set at the start of the game, arrow flashes are either required to be charged up with unlimited use or collected out on the field with no charge time.

BloodShed

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/bloodshed/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

BloodShed is an arcade style on rails shooter with hand drawn cartoon art.

Dual Crosshairs

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/dualcrosshairs/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

As of this writing your objective will be to defend the tower from bombers with your two guns. Blastforce is a freeware top-down shooter set in the year 2917. It is being developed with the Gamemaker 6.1 (but may be changed to GM 7.0 in the future). I have been working on the idea behind it for about 10 years (the story behind it was originally written by me as a hobby). Currently, the game is being developed by myself and a friend (with another helping me with my concept artwork). We still have quite a lot to do still!

Features

In the game you will be able to fly a wide variety of aircraft- interceptors, bombers, space-helicopters, and even the odd go on the gun turret. There will also be a number of ground-based missions in the game. The game's graphics are (or will be) in a anime-ish, super nintendo kind of style.

Situation

The game is still in early stages, and newcomers are welcome. At the moment we need:
-Coders
-Pixel artists
-Manga artists

There are also other jobs available. Please leave me a message if you are interested.

Bullet Candy

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/bulletcandy/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Just like Geometry Wars, Bullet Candy has you dodging and firing other space ships in intense 360 degree action. For too long, genetically modified grown food, and pollution from the ocean and environment created a harmful impact on the natural food chain of Planet Terria.

The insects and ocean dwellers mutated in wildly unusual ways and became stronger and more intelligent.
Some began to develop brain abnormalities, which resulted in an increased aptitude of 5000% in their IQ's. As their new intellect grew, so did their appetite for planet domination.
The year is 2174, and you have been ordered to function as an
orbital sniper. In your world there's just three kinds of people:
VIPs, dissidents and normal citizens. VIPs run the world: they must
not come to harm. Dissidents must die. If a commoner or two gets
wasted in progress, it'll count against you when your post ends.

You were a normal citizen only moments ago. If you manage to prove
yourself and keep VIPs safe in your area, they might make you
a VIP. Or do poorly enough and they might decide that you're the
enemy.

On screen, VIPs are designated blue, threats are designated red
and the normal folk are white.

You control the target with mouse; right-drag or use mouse wheel
to zoom. Different zoom modes are useful for different things.
Zoom full out to see the whole situation at a glance (with all
that useless clutter removed), or zoom full in for better aiming.
Several levels of zoom in between give different information.

Left click fires your gun (which is based on some new physics laws
that we haven't invented yet, as the target is destroyed instantly).
The gun reloads for three seconds, so make sure you hit.

A typical game round lasts for about 4 minutes. It starts out easy,
but gets rather nasty later on.

Toy Robo

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/toy-robo/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Please try it and then let me know what you think :)
To help you along your way, you can equip several types of batteries, each with different combat effects and

This game was developed as an entry to the gamedev.net 4e4 contest which required that it encorporate at least 2 of the following four elements (elements of which ALL games are apparently made of): pirates, ninjas, robots and zombies.

I opted for robots and zombies because robots are easy to model and zombies are easy to animate ^_^

The contest had a 6 month time limit, so I wanted to make sure I didn't bite off more then I could chew. In the end I came in 2nd out of at least 20 - the 1st place finisher was developed by 5 people! so even though I didn't win I felt like the game did very well and the process was rewarding.
The majority of the game takes place within the cockpit of various space fighters. Depending on how well one performs while in action, the player may find themselves on the winning or losing path thus altering the plot accordingly. Medals and the respect of your wingmen are gained if performance is exemplary, in turn leading to a more effective attack wing. In between space-flight missions the player is free to roam the legendary carrier "TCS Tiger's Claw" and have conversations with their fellow crew mates, learning more about the horrors and triumphs of the bloody war that is now being fought.

When Wing Commander was released in 1990, the in-game graphics and space-combat engine were a step above all other products during that period. The game was even one of the first to use the new Sound Blaster for PC's, adding to the already cinematic feel of the game.

The strong script and characters which has been a staple through out the series are the primary reason why the Wing Commander has gained such a strong following over the years. That combined with movie-like presentation and strong gameplay has made the venerable Wing Commander a classic among gamers and critics.
Bet On Soldier: Blood Sport is a first-person shooter developed by French developer Kylotonn, and published in the North American and UK market by Digital Jesters.

The game is a spiritual sequel to the alternative history first-person shooter Iron Storm. Although it is not explicitly stated that the games take place in the same fictional universe, they share many of the same themes, plot elements, character and level designs, and weapons. Many members of Kylotonn previously worked on the team that made Iron Storm.

The story revolves around an unknown world war where elite soldiers, when they meet, battle to the death in one-on-one deathmatches. These deathmatches are broadcast all over the world as a televised sport named "Bet On Soldier", and since has become the favorite form of entertainment with many viewers betting on soldiers. The tagline in the introduction is "In the future, war has purpose. Soldiers fight in the name of... Entertainment.

Setting:
Bet on Soldier is set on an alternate Earth in the year 1998, during a war that has lasted for 80 years and shows no signs of ever stopping. Every aspect of society revolves around warfare. Everyone earns their income through war; all men are paid soldiers, and women and the elderly work in the weapons manufacturing industry. The world is in a perpetual state of war between two competing power blocs, the Western WRF and the Asian VAN. The populace seeks solace from this grim world mainly through escapist television entertainment, with the most popular programming being "Bet On Soldier", in which elite soldiers face off against each other in one-on-one deathmatches, and where viewers can wager on the outcome of the fights.

Gameplay and Plot:
The player takes on the role of an unknown mercenary who enters the Bet on Soldier tornament in order to hunt down the people responsible for the murder of his wife.

Bet On Soldier differs from traditional first-person shooters as the player must select equipment before entering combat (much like Counter-Strike) and will be using that equipment throughout the mission. The player cannot change their inventory during a mission, or pick up weapons or ammo that either allies or enemies have dropped. In order to acquire more ammo or replenish their supply of armor, the player must spend money at various "purchase terminals" located throughout the levels. Money is earned by killing enemies, with more spectacular kills (i.e. headshots or deaths caused by exploding barrels) earning more cash.

The player can also hire up to two A.I.-controlled mercenaries that follow them throughout the level and assist them in combat. These mercenaries can be issued basic orders, such as to wait at a certain location or to follow the player.
At certain points in each level, the player is pitted in a one-on-one deathmatch against an enemy B.O.S. champion. The amount of money the player earns from these fights depends on how quickly they can kill their opponent.

Wing Commander II

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/WingCommanderII/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Released in 1991, Wing Commander 2 is a sci-fi space simulation that is a continuation of the storyline that was told in the original Wing Commander.
"Ten years ago, you were the Hero of Vega Sector, idol of millions - the starfighter pilot who single-handedly turned the tide of a major Kilrathi invasion. Then something went wrong.

You were disgraced, court-martialed and transferred to a backwater outpost. For years, your lightning-quick reflexes and instinctive dogfighting tactics went to waste while the Kilrathi killed your closest friends on the front lines.

But Mankind still needs a hero, now more than ever before. And you're still the best pilot in the Galaxy. You've got just one chance to prove yourself, just one chance to keep the Terran homeworlds from falling to the massed armada of the Empire of Kilrah."

Again most of the game is spent flying missions in space for the Confederation in the continuing war effort against the fearsome Kilrathi Empire. When not flying missions, the player is also able to explore the "TCS Concordia" and talk to fellow crew-mates. A greater emphasis has been placed on storytelling, which gives the player a greater scope on the people fighting this war. The mood is darker than the original, mainly due to the fact that the Humans are in fact losing the war.

Wing Commander 2 bettered the original in every regard, from the updated graphics engine to the detailed script. It is considered an all-time classic within the gaming world.

Released in 1994, Wing Commander III was the first game to be marketed as a true "Interactive Movie". It was received with much critical-acclaim due to its high playability, state-of-the-art in-game graphics engine plus well scripted, produced and acted FMV sequences, all of which contributed to the games deep and absorbing atmosphere.

Wing Commander III was the first game in the series to use Full Motion Video as the primary story-telling device and is considered to be one of the best and successful examples of FMV use in a video game. The interactive element takes form during conversation cut-scenes where the player is asked to make a choice on how to proceed. This is done by either by giving a positive or negative response when prompted and this in turn affects the mood of the characters involved, altering theyre behaviour during missions and future conversations.

This was the final game in the Wing Commander series to deal with the Terran-Kilrathi conflict. As with the previous games, it is possible to play a winning or losing path, depending on the players performance during space-combat. The destruction of Earth or the Kilrathi's home planet of "Kilrah" is at the end of one of these two paths. However the series does continue with Wing Commander IV and Wing Commander: Prophecy.
Basically its a single level game built around JumpStart. The Map to play on is randomly selected from a set list (currently 4 maps) and play exists of you trying to destroy all of the enemies on the screen. Some maps are generated procedurely and some are hard coded.

In the relased version sound is supported (turned off by default, turn it on in the options screen). I'll warn you now that the sound can get a bit annoing. Luckily you can press escape, go to options, turn it off, back, and resume game.

Graphics are completely from SpriteLib GPL. If anyone wants to take the time to create real graphics for the game I'd be happy to add them in and add on a credits screen.
