PlaneShift is has a classic medieval fantasy setting, with a slight twist. Instead of a generic planet, the game is set inside a gigantic stalactite named Yliakum, divided into eight levels, of which the lower two are flooded.

Fractured Universe

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/FracturedUniverse/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Ages ago, the universes were all connected through fantastic portals created, some say, by the gods themselves. These portals were used by royalty, travelers, merchants, peasants... anyone that had need to travel from one world to another could use them.

Whomever, whatever, however they were created was lost through the ages. Everyone believed that since the portals had existed since the beginning of time then they would last until the end of time. But then things changed.

Nobody knows exactly what happened. The disappearance of the portals are as much a mystery as their origins. The portals didn't all disappear at once. No, as my great-great grandfather tells it, it took about a year until the last known portal from this world to another was gone. The year was called the Year of Chaos.

Today, everything changed...

Tearsol

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/tearsol/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

In Tearsol Online, the player takes on the classic role of a lone protagonist, adventuring for wealth and fame while uncovering an ancient conspiracy of church and state.

Players may claim their own land plots and design their own buildings from the ground up, while developing their characters and taking part in events designed by other players.

The entire package can be ran on a range of operating systems and hardware configurations, without any installation. All assets are downloaded immediately as they are required, making this the ultimate office, school or library pastime!

Egg's Ultima Online

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/euo/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

EUO is an Ultima-based online RPG with many influences, varying from Diablo-style hack'n'slash to NetHack quirks. It is closely tied to the Origin Ultima V RPG.

Created originally by eggmceye to be a rogue-like game named Balrog in 1998, it was quickly turned into an Ultima-like game with the discovery of an Ultima 4 tileset created by Josh Steele, giving the game its retro feel. Over the past nine years, it has slowly evolved into an online RPG with a small but growing fanbase spanning two servers, each one incorporating slighty different gameplay.

In those nine years, the game has grown from a four player only server to one that incorporates a full Ultima V magic system, including the Runic alphabet, crafting and creature taming. It also contains numerous easter eggs in tribute to NetHack.
