Programming started on February 16,2000 and the game rapidly took shape. I had a rough game was playable in less than a week, and since that time I’ve added a lot of cool effects to make the game more polished.

Space Rocks

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/spacerocks/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

This started out as a homage to asteroids and has turned into a fun little project that I've been adding functionality and polishing it up. Please give feedback! Thanks! games@digitalblur.com

How to play Space Rocks Beta v0.3:

-Control the ship by moving the target cursor with the mouse and press 'W' or the right mouse button.

-Additionaly you can use the 'A' and 'D' keys to rotate the ship left or right (currently needs work).

-Shoot the asteroids with the left mouse button or the spacebar.

-Pause the game by pressing 'P'

-Use your ammo and thruster sparingly, you have a limited amount. Watch the icons in the upper left corner to monitor your levels. Pick up the powerups with an 'A' to recharge your ammo and powerups with a 'E' will restore your thruster energy.

-The ship icon in the upper left corner of the screen will turn darker red every time an asteroid hits your ship and will be on fire when your damage is critical mass. Pick up the powerups with the '+' in the middle to recharge your sheilds and restore the ships health. It is on loan so - you break it you buy it...

-You can pick up powerups after you destroy certain asteroids.

Have Fun!

Initially only written to test a few routines we're writing for our main project, we've decided to release it anyway in the hope someone might get some enjoyment from it
The most spectacular race in the solar system has returned! This year's "Asteroid Run" has been expanded to 3 exciting courses. Brave the "Moons of Jupiter", the "Neptune Junkyard", and return to the dense and dangerous course of "136199 Eris."

Instructions:
The object of the game is to make it through as many rings as possible before the time runs out or your spaceship sustains too much damage. There are two health items throughout the course that can repair a bar of damage and each cleared ring will extend the remaining time by 3 seconds.

Controls:
Left and Right arrow keys - turn left and right
Up and Down arrow keys - turn down and up (notice they are reversed like flight simulator controls)
option (alt) - accelerate
control - brake
However, there are different neon shapes that do different things. Some will float around while others will chase you. There are also powerups you can collect such as shields and time-stoppers.

Aster Blaster

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/asterblaster/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Aster Blaster (also known as Aster Blaster HS) is a remake of a game that I had created long ago, of the same name. It is a work in progress, and will feature a few different modes of play when finished. The goal of the game is to blast asteroids, but eventually you will have more goals to complete while simultaneously defending your starship from those hunks of floating rock.

RoidRage

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/roidrage/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

WIP Asteroids inspired vector style title.

When learning a new system the first thing you do is remake a classic. When I wanted to do hardware accelerated glowy vectors I turned to one of the greatest (and also most remade) games of them all asteroids.

RoidRage isn't going to be a clone of asteroids but a game in the style of asteroids, with powerups and more enemy types for starters.
Jeff just finished it off a few days ago. The game is more like traditional Asteroids, but with progressive weapons. This game loads much quicker than Retro Blaster, and it supports 100's of on-screen objects (mostly shots) with little or no slow-down.
