Dr Light created Megaman to stop the evil desires of Dr Wily. However, after his defeat, Dr Wily created eight of his own robots to counter Megaman.
Dr. Light takes him in, and the two begin work on Gamma, a great robot intended to maintain the world's peace. Near the end of their work, the two need energy elements from eight unknown planets to activate Gamma.

The original Mortal Kombat was an unexpected success developed in less than a years time on a shoestring budget: though MK1 brought graphical innovation to the fighting genre by introducing fatalities to the mix Pit-Fighter beat it to market in terms of digitized FMV sprites.

Every Character has two fatalities in this iteration of the series and their fighting styles are expressed in a surprisingly deep juggle combo system quite atypical of the Killer Instinct inspired "dial a combo" system employed in every MK since.

Wolfenstein 3D

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/wolf3d/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

You're William J. "B.J." Blazkowicz, the Allies' bad boy of espionage and a terminal action seeker. Some would argue that cel-shading simply brought Zelda back to it's light hearted two dimensional roots -come now, turquoise red cape clad pig's hardly scream realism-while others would defend the honor of Ocarina of Time claiming Wind Waker to be saccharine aberration.

Regardless of your artistic preferences though, it cannot be denied that Wind Waker is a great game with quite a few flaws.

After all, it's universally accepted that Wind Waker is far too easy, features quite a lot of tedious sailing toward the end of the game, and is on the short side for a Zelda game due the painfully obvious scrapping of two dungeons.

For all of that, Wind Waker is still quite compelling oozing style and charm: a Zelda slightly worse than it's predecessors is still better than 90% of 3D games out there.

In fact, the core gameplay is of such quality that if the previously mentioned flaws were somehow remedied in, oh say; a Wiimake, Windwaker would probably stand a chance at being the best game in The Legend of Zelda series.

Super Mario 64

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/mario64/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

The first well made three dimensional platformer of it's day Super Mario 64 still ranks among the genre's finest. The town of Tristram is under attack by demons, and the player must save the town. As the player delves into the underworld, he discovers more about the demon Diablo, through large tomes that are found throughout the levels. Eventually, the player reaches the lair of Diablo and must kill him. Here is a more detailed summary of Diablo's history:

Diablo, an incredibly powerful demon, is the Lord of Terror and one of the Three Prime Evils of Hell, who had been imprisoned in a Soulstone and buried in caverns deep beneath the town of Tristram. Though his imprisonment was meant to be eternal, the power of the Soulstone weakened over centuries, eventually allowing Diablo to awaken from his forced slumber. He telepathically turns a nearby human, the Archbishop Lazarus, into his loyal puppet. In order for Diablo to actually leave the Soul stone, Diablo needs a human to possess. At first he tries to gain control of King Leoric, the local ruler, through his puppet, Lazarus. But, since Diablo is too weak to possess the king, he fails and merely drives the unfortunate monarch insane. He then gets Lazarus to kidnap King Leoric's son, Prince Albrecht, so that Diablo can possess and warp him, thereby attaining material form and freedom from the stone. At the moment of the boy's possession, his terror is so great that the boundaries between the realms are broken and parts of Hell seep into the mortal world and take root in the subterranean labyrinth beneath Tristram. Diablo may have a body now, but he is far from his full power, so he bides his time and summons countless hordes of demons and infests the whole underground complex, claiming the new region of Hell as his own personal lair.

Soon afterwards the maddened Leoric is slain by his own lieutenants. Demons appear in the countryside as the Lord of Terror regains his strength in the heart of the labyrinth and prepares for the time when he would once again emerge to seek his brothers - Baal and Mephisto - and free them as well. It seemed to be a matter of time until the Prime Evils gained dominion over the entire mortal realm.

Then, one day, a lone traveller approaches the town of Tristram

Warcraft 2

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/war2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Warcraft II Battle.net Edition is the continuation of the ruthless clash between the armies of the noble Humans and the brutish Orcs. It is a time of chaos in the Empire. Rebel factions strike from hidden bases, pirates plunder unsuspecting civilian spacecraft, and traitors plot behind the Emperor's back. You, a rookie pilot in the Imperial Navy, must rise to action for the glory of the Empire and the good of all mankind.

The player's character is unnamed (however, in sources outside the game, name is Maarek Stele), but features such notable Star Wars characters as: Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and even Admiral Thrawn from the books.

Star Wars: TIE Fighter is somewhat of a sequal to Star Wars: X-Wing, however this time the player is the "bad guy." With various objectives ranging from destroying pirates and Rebels to flying wingman for Darth Vader himself, TIE Fighter offers a great deal of enjoyment for those who love the Star Wars universe.

Gameplay involves managing your weapons/engine/shield (if available) systems while dogfighting enemy spacecraft or attacking larger capital spaceships. Additionally, missiles are limited (if even available), so must be used carefully. Because this is the side of the Empire, the fighters you will be flying initially are very vulnerable to damage. Two or three hits to your TIE Fighter and you're toast, and destroying shielded enemy Rebel fighters in such a craft can be challenging.

Mission objectives are crucial to completing stages of the game, and advancing the storyline. Additionally, there are optional bonus objectives, which influence the secondary advancement in the Emperor's secret order.

Super Mario Sunshine

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/sms/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Super Mario Sunshine is a 3-D platforming video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo GameCube. Gameplay challenges include defeating enemies, solving puzzles and ultimately collecting all of the spaceship parts before Olimar's life-support system runs out. Captain Olimar has a limited number of days to explore the planet's wide range of environments. Each day is monitored by a constantly moving sun meter at the top of the screen. You have to make sure to complete your tasks and gather your stray Pikmin before the sun goes down, or they'll fall prey to the planet's nocturnal natural predators.

To produce new Pikmin, you have to defeat enemies and carry them back to the Pikmin nests, called onions. If you want to make more blue Pikmin, command your blue Pikmin to carry defeated enemies and food back to blue onions. If you need red Pikmin, then make sure to assign red Pikmin to carry fallen prey back to home base. Once you get the hang of it, it's not difficult to keep a healthy stock of all types of Pikmin in reserve. You can have up to 100 Pikmin out at the same time, but you can store as many as you'd like in the onions.

In addition to the different colors of Pikmin, each Pikmin can be grown into three different forms: leaves, buds and flowers. Pikmin begin their lives as leaves, but they mature into buds and flowers if you leave them in the ground after sprouting. Flower Pikmin are stronger and faster than bud and leaf Pikmin.

Syberia

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/syberia/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

A journey beyond compare...For the young Kate Walker, an ambitious lawyer, the Voralberg toy company acquisition seemed like a textbook case - a quick stopover to a small alpine village in France to buy-out an old automaton factory, then straight back home to New York.
When the SNES debuted, many expected their favorite games to re-appear with a graphical overhaul. Castlevania IV was that and more of the original title, expanding the game well beyond the NES version as well as updating the graphics and sound.

Guitar Hero

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/GuitarHero/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Published by RedOctane, Guitar Hero from the makers of Karaoke Revolution uses a plastic guitar peripheral so that gamers can show their skills at crunching power chords and nailing a tough solo. The guitar features five buttons on the fretboard and a plastic button that can be tapped up or down where the strings would be strummed. Playing the songs here is simply a matter of holding down the right fret buttons and tapping the strum button in time with the music. This is all done along with the commands that scroll down the screen in an interface that's very similar to that seen in Frequency or Amplitude. Gameplay is simple: there are five lines on the screen for the five different buttons. Markers scroll down the lines and as they hit the bottom of the screen the corresponding "notes" need to be hit. The game features multiple skill levels and about 30 songs.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/graw/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter is the third installment in the Ghost Recon series. Medal of Honor Allied Assault was the first in a series of games under this franchise. At the time, it's style and feel were unique and in many ways ground breaking with many similar games coming after it. This is not to say that it was the first or run-away best, but one of the most common compliments seems to be that it was the first to really capture the "right feel". The weapons look, sound and play incredibly true to their real world counterparts and the settings for the missions are beautiful. If you are a fan of the genre, this is a must play.

Quake 2

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/quake2/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Quake II, released on December 6, 1997, is a first person shooter computer game developed by id Software and distributed by Activision. It is not a sequel to Quake; it merely uses the name of the former game for commercial purposes. The soundtrack was provided by Sonic Mayhem, with some additional tracks by Bill Brown. The main theme was by Rob Zombie.

Quake 2 is commonly known as the definitive online deathmatch experience, having players move at incredible speeds firing devastating weapons.

Meteos

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/meteos/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Most of the action takes place at the bottom screen of the DS unit (the section referred to as the atmosphere). Blocks ("Meteos") fall down from the top of the screen and start to form stacks. The player can move blocks up and down in a stack using the stylus, or alternatively by using the control pad and A button.

The player aims to line up three or more matching blocks. When a horizontal or vertical row of at least three blocks is formed, the row of blocks will ignite and turn into a kind of tiny rocket engine. The rocket then pushes the blocks above it towards the top of the screen. To lift a large amount of blocks, additional rows of blocks must be formed in a quick succession (secondary ignition). Also, if an ignited pile of blocks falls back down and, in doing so, causes another set of blocks to ignite, the pile will boost back up again, wider than before. This is called a step jump.

The goal of the game is to lift blocks past the top of the bottom screen, turning them into sparks at the top screen (orbit). If any column of unignited blocks grows beyond the top of the bottom screen and is not dealt with, it's game over (annihilation). When a stack of blocks gets dangerously high, the stack will flash and the game will sound a warning signal, until either the game ends or a quick action by the player averts the disaster.
