"For Wurm Online (henceforth called Wurm) to be something special and not just another 3D fantasy massively multiplayer game, we realized that we had to actually implement the features that players have demanded since the dawn of these types of games. Other 3D games have promised these features and still have them on their 'upcoming features' list unless they dropped them when they realized they'd never make it. Why? Because Wurm is built on technology that can make it happen and other games are not.

The first technological advantage of Wurm: it is done in Java. This means that we can reach gamers on operating systems that usually have few if any of these types of games to play. We also consider Wurm to be the first 3D java game that actually looks better graphically than most PC games while still being playable.

The second advantage: Wurm is tile-based. This means first and foremost three things:

We have more manageable data structures

We may stream terrain

Line of sight in the client may be outrageous

Now, none of these possibilities are easy to implement but we have succeeded. This is the glory of Wurm and the foundation that the game rests upon.

An example of the technological advantage:
Because we have such manageable data structures, we may have millions of individual trees on one map.
For example, streaming the terrain gives us the opportunity compared to other games:

trees and plants grow

you can cut down trees

and you can plant trees

Other effects are for instance:

you can terraform by digging and dropping dirt.

you can pave roads

grass and other types of vegetation compete to be predominant

you can dig out caves in the mountains

* some terrain can be converted to farmland where you grow crops of various kinds"

Granado Espada

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/granadoespada/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Granado Espada, also known as Sword of the New World, is an Age of Exploration fantasy MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) developed by IMC Entertainment. These portals were used by royalty, travelers, merchants, peasants... anyone that had need to travel from one world to another could use them.

Whomever, whatever, however they were created was lost through the ages. Everyone believed that since the portals had existed since the beginning of time then they would last until the end of time. But then things changed.

Nobody knows exactly what happened. The disappearance of the portals are as much a mystery as their origins. The portals didn't all disappear at once. No, as my great-great grandfather tells it, it took about a year until the last known portal from this world to another was gone. The year was called the Year of Chaos.
Maybe there aren't any nutts left so you can gather them for winter, but your neighbour sure has lots of them. You never really liked him, did you? Take his nutts and add them to your stash!

Nuttz is a game for two players, based on Capture The Flag. Each player controls one of insanely-quick squirrels and tries to run over to his opponents base (middle hollows), steal the nut, and stash it in his own base. You can only carry one nut at a time. If you stomp the enemy mario-like, he will be immobilized for 1 second, and will lose the nut he was carrying. From time to time, like in every normal forest, on middle-top platform spawns magical FreezeGem, which will immobilize your opponent for 5 seconds, he will not lose the nut however. You can use bottom and top hollows for quick transfers between levels. First player to get 10 nuts wins. You see amount of nuts in player1 and player2 bases in top left and top right corners respectively.

Blah Blah. Game is still in development (one reason why it's insanely fast is no framerate independency ;)). The rules will follow the role-playing rules and only vary in the conversion from a turn-based system to a real-time system. All conversions will be justified and will result in similar, if not identical behavior, if viewed in a turn-based time frame.

Physics, scale, and interactions will be of highest importance, followed by accurate input/output (i.e external hardware, see MechWarrior Combat Simulator Cockpit for more explanation), and with visual impressiveness being of lowest importance (i.e. I'm not starting out with beautiful models that don't interact with their environment correctly). Network multi-player is not a priority.

The initial project will cover the technology of 2550. It will start in the year 2550 and span to current time of 3070's. Since a game that size would be imposible to create in one shot, it will start with the range 2550 to 3025, a decline in technology. Each faction will be a separate add-on as will steps in time (3025-3050, 3050-3055, etc.). Clan will be an option, but only through participation in the Exodus.

The primary focus is a single-player game, multi-player is a separate function with the possibility of tying the two together with Solaris VII. The core game engine is released under the GPL License; however, the prepackaged mod that comes with the standard installation requires that one own a copy of TA to legally play it. There is, however, an official release which uses fully free content, and there are a number of mods, both in development and released, that are also completely free to use.

Spring is being developed by the Swedish Yankspankers and the Spring community. The initial goal was to have the game run the mods and 3rd party units from Total Annihilation. This goal is now mostly complete, and the project has moved on to including additional features. The game is mainly focused around multiplayer games over the Internet or a LAN connection. There are currently no single player campaigns or missions, although there is some basic support for this through Lua scripting. There are also many skirmish AIs under development, allowing for offline play or extra players in an online game. Through pollution and war the world's main populace survives in fortified mega-metropolises referred to as citadels scattered throughout uninhabitable wastelands. In 2200 when the U.E.C was first formed the decision was taken to only take those who were most important to society into the protection of the citadels.

Although many live happy lives in the serenity of the citadels and with ignorance that over half the world's population lives in turmoil, outside life is a harsh experience, many have died in the inhospitable environment but for those that have survived so far evolution has "gifted" them with something special, unknown to the U.E.C those left outside were not the only life that survived. At different locations around the world life has re-emerged stronger than before with new species of plants and animals flourishing in independent eco-systems. These are a haven for those left outside and are their means of survival.

The past is not easily forgotten though and inevitably the two divisions of humans would obviously not co-exist peacefully. The war is just about to begin, the U.E.C is unaware of what is about to unfold but tension is rising after transports between citadels have gone missing. The outcasts plan for revenge is in motion...

The Sides:

U.E.C Military/Security forces:

The U.E.C seeks to finish off what they started and destroy what is left of any resistance to its rule. The U.E.C arsenal is composed of conventional ballistic weaponry with a few elite soldiers wielding the newly developed energy weapons.

The Outcasts:

The Outcasts seek revenge against their brethren; motivated by this they have spent many years planning for their revenge. They seek to change the earth to a world full of jungles and devoid of technology or cities with humanity living alongside nature. The Outcasts of course cannot wage a war with weapons made from wood and stone, instead they utilize the "gifts" given to them by evolution to destroy their foes, and so with a variety of hand to hand combat, enhanced reflexes and elemental forces to help them along they are a deadly adversary to any U.E.C force.

The Repopulation

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/therepopulation/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

You awaken in unfamiliar surroundings to find that earth has been destroyed.
