The player can run left, right and jump, but can also turn the world clockwise and counterclockwise by 90 degrees. When this happens physics works the following way: as soon as rotation starts all objects get frozen and after rotation objects continue to move with their velocities (direction and speed) they had before. With this ability you can move objects and yourself but also need to keep orientation and watch out for dangerous situations. Don't worry though, your made out of paper so you can die as often as you want to.
The overall goal is to get through this collage of ripped paper. And if your quick - and don´t die too often - you might get into the highscore list.
This is a gameconcept for a mediainformatics course held by the igw at Vienna University of Technology. We made two levels that show different aspects of how actual gameplay could be like. The first level - the cave - is more jump and run style and is an easy one where you can practice and improve your rotation skills. The second one - the jungle - is an advanced level with more sophisticated puzzles. To solve them you have to apply the physical consequences of rotating the world to the player and other objects simultaneously.

Desktop Tower Defense

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/desktoptd/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Desktop TD is a fun flash based puzzle / strategy game where you have to protect your desktop from invaders by spending money on attacking pieces and building a maze for them to follow. It features several races, classes, spells, powers, monsters, artifacts, quests, etc. The list could go on and on.

Unlike vanilla angband, ToME has several cities based on a map fitting for J.R.R. Tolkien's works. There are several dungeons you can explore, their levels are randomly generated from their design to contents and quests, but not everything is random, there are special rooms, quests, unique artifacts and unique monsters players can hunt for.

ToME is also an unique rogue-like by the fact that it's not entirely level based, players can customise their characters by increasing skills which range from weaponmastery to necromancy and summoning, just to name a few.

Because it's constantly in development, ToME has a very active community and several MODs player can create and use.

Determinance

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/determinance/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

A multiplayer sword-fighting game in development for three years.

Saucelifter

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/saucelifter/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Tell us about your game here

Clonk Rage

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/clonk/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Clonk is a highly traditional 2D game of action, strategy, tactics, and skill. Build your base, mine for resources, develop technology, or simply knock your opponent on the head. You will have trouble finding a game with more variety in gameplay - download the trailer video to find out more.

The game has been freshly ported from Windows to Linux and Mac and is currently in Beta. We would especially love feedback on the two new platforms.

Prepare for an uncommon set of controls which will take a bit of time to master but which will then give you full control over all actions of your crew members in realtime.

Clonk is fully editable. An integrated developer mode with a powerful and fully documented scripting language will leave nothing to be desired if you want to take things into your own and create your own game extensions as hundreds of community players have already done.
Deluxe Pacman was a very popular Amiga shareware game that garnered many many addicted fans. Now, on both the PC and MAC, it includes all the old bonuses like glue, extra time, guns and gems, but now it is bigger and better than ever. There are many new modes of play and skill levels. Over 100 levels including bonus rounds and even some secret levels too. There are also even more bonus pickups of course, and the graphics and eye-candy have had a nice boost. Profiles make the game even more addictive and we hope to add even more very very soon. This is a much more recent release from us and so is still in active development but it is already at a fully playable, stable and bugfree stage. I played a much larger part in this games development, doing the usual testing and QC, but i also recorded the entire voice set, created all the levels and many of the tilesets are my own. Of course being a part of this one from the start also made it easier to implement many of my own ideas for the game of which many are in :) One of the great bits is in duel mode where you can come back as a ghost and chase round your rivals for some revenge... While TeamTerminator is known for the famous Q3 based TrueCombat series, GrooveSix Studios was initiated by retired TeamTerminator co-founder Coroner to develop a Return to Castle Wolfenstein modification that is not released. Thus, as very experienced Q3-based content creators, we hope to be able to serve the gaming community with a quality offering.
Now, the most important question: "What can you expect from TC:E?" TC:E is a tactical-team shooter, set up in a modern-world environment. TC:E puts you into the role of elite mercenary soldier in the conflicts of two internationally operating forces.
It simulates the complete history and future of life according the evolution theory. Its concept, scope, and development philosophy (broad use of procedural generation) has drawn wide attention.

Spore is, at first glance, a "teleological evolution" game or god game: the player molds and guides a species across many generations, growing it from a single-celled organism into a more complex animal, until the species becomes intelligent. At this point the player begins molding and guiding this species' society, progressing towards a spacefaring civilization. Spore's main innovation is the use of procedural generation for many of the components of the game, providing vast scope and open-endedness. Wright said "I didn't want to make players feel like Luke Skywalker or Frodo Baggins. I wanted them to be like George Lucas or J.R.R. Within Eurale are seven kingdoms: Nisos, Aratoy, Oriam, Fornax, Elythria, Cathea, and Taberland. The seven kingdoms united into an uneasy alliance and built a citadel as a meeting place, which was named Avalon.

Within the land is a civilization of nomads known as the Sha'ahoul. Their religion values very highly the earth and nature and therefore they are against farming, the building of permanent structures, and similar practices which they feel destroys the earth. After discovering the existence of Eurale, they declared war on the seven kingdoms to eradicate their way of life.

Many refugees of the destruction caused by the Sha'ahoul took shelter in Avalon. The seven kingdoms sent military support to defend Avalon and the refugees. To the people of Eurale, Avalon is seen as the last hope at stopping the Sha'ahoul. The Sha'ahoul and their leader, Mithras, chose to overtake the citadel by setting up a siege around it.

The game begins with an entry in the hero's journal. The siege has been going on for several years. His brother, Corvus, serves as part of the military in Avalon. When their father dies, the hero feels that it is his obligation to inform Corvus of the sad news, so he becomes part of the crew of a ship sailing from Elythria to Avalon to deliver supplies. The Sha'ahoul manage to sink all of the ships except the one the hero is on. The ship reaches Avalon, but has lost most of its supplies. It is not possible to make a return voyage to Elythria and so the hero decides to stay at Avalon, inform Corvus of their father's death, and help out Avalon in whatever manner he can.
The goal is simple - catch the plumbers as they fall from the pipes (remind you of anything?) by holding UP as they hit the giant plant's head. Catch a set amount before they break your pot to continue on.

The game was made as a retro-themed title, imitating the classic, badly-translated, super-odd Japanese games.

The game is still under construction, and after the upcoming Hedonism Games title is completed, it will be updated, as well - numerous problems exist in the game, primarily the lack of sound, lack of variety, the fact the enemies are still visible when they run off the screen and the inability to move while eating plumbers. The other big update will be commenting the code better! As it was made in so few hours, it's rather unclean code...
Image" /> Oh no! Leftover Halloween candy has gone bad, and it's up to you to clean up the mess.

History

This game was put on Newgrounds way back on 11/29/2005, and has broken the 75,000 view mark. This game is also open source; scroll down to see the notice, and scroll further to download the .fla file!

Gameplay

To play, click once on any colored candy with at least one of the same color adjacent. All similarly-colored candies will be highlighted, and text will tell you how many points it'd be worth to collect them. Keep above the minimum score to continue; how long can YOU last?

Cheats

Type c-h-e-a-t while playing and you'll hear "watch this!". Once cheats are enabled, press 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 to destroy all of the corresponding color (while racking up bunches of points!), or type "s-c-o-r-e" to get the equivalent of 10 candies at once (point value varies by level).

Hints

If you just randomly collect candy, you'll probably make it to level 5 or 6, but if you want any hope of passing further, you need to bunch multiple candies together - you'll get double the points for 4 at once than for 2 twice.

It's also important to get those bonuses! In Candy Catastrophe, you'll get a bonus for each candy that has over 90% collected. Here too, it's better to get one 96% than a few 91%s.

Save vertical candies for later unless taking them helps make a better match - sometimes you'll be able to get rid of a column on either side and can use them then.

The rules will follow the role-playing rules and only vary in the conversion from a turn-based system to a real-time system. All conversions will be justified and will result in similar, if not identical behavior, if viewed in a turn-based time frame.

Physics, scale, and interactions will be of highest importance, followed by accurate input/output (i.e external hardware, see MechWarrior Combat Simulator Cockpit for more explanation), and with visual impressiveness being of lowest importance (i.e. I'm not starting out with beautiful models that don't interact with their environment correctly). Network multi-player is not a priority.

The initial project will cover the technology of 2550. It will start in the year 2550 and span to current time of 3070's. Since a game that size would be imposible to create in one shot, it will start with the range 2550 to 3025, a decline in technology. Each faction will be a separate add-on as will steps in time (3025-3050, 3050-3055, etc.). Clan will be an option, but only through participation in the Exodus.

The primary focus is a single-player game, multi-player is a separate function with the possibility of tying the two together with Solaris VII. The game will be comprised of a multi-generational character (obvious given the time frame). The game will be a collection of campaigns, divided into battles. Progress through the game will present options to the user allowing them to shape their destiny. All element of the game can be either scripted (pre-determined), randomly generated, or a combination of the two.

Snowman Village

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/snowmanvillage/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

In Snowman Village you must roll your snowball along and dodge the various obstacles in your path, gradually making it bigger and bigger.
- Features?

At this point you'll have figured out VoiD.net has a big adventure component, and this heavily influences the gameplay. It has some RPG aspects (character levelling, skills / "magic") and even tactical wargame or fighting games ones.
Let's say I try to mix what I liked most of each (2D) genre into a platformer. This is the result:

High-res 32bit, hardware accelerated graphics (supporting OpenGL & DirectX currently; probly DX support will be discontinued).

VoiD Engine scripting language for developing customizable campaigns.

Deep immersion in the sci-fi world of Void through ingame narrative, playable cutscenes, "alive" game maps and npcs...

Up to 5 selectable characters at the same time in the player party.

Fast paced control system, designed for heavy action scenes.

Vehicles, some controlable by the player.

Levelling system for characters. Character classes & subclasses, skills (including some kind of magic), buyable equipment, award system a la Tactics Ogre...

Fluid character animation, thanks to VoiD Engine 2D Skeletal Animation System.

Ambient, weather and cinematic effects (graphic effects via shaders, when available).

Lots of developer love :)

- Personal note

I've been into development (on my own) for more than 2 years, and I know I still have long ways to go. The game has evolved a lot since its first form and has become somewhat complex.
This may sound crazy for just one dev, but I have my reasons. It's a very personal project, because I see it as my "ultimate freeware game" before starting to think more... commercial.

If you have any comment, ... well, just leave it, or mail me or whatever you want!
It was originally developed by Enfo, but has since been released openly and is being continued by many modders. It is loosely based upon tower defense maps. Players are divided into two teams and choose their heroes at the start of the game. They cannot directly engage in combat with the other team. Instead, they fend off waves of monsters in order to survive for longer than their enemies.

Hollow Ground

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/hollowground/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Hollow Ground is a one or two-player tactical arcade game taking place in a post-apocalyptic future. Four mercenaries have to make an unwelcome journey to rid a war-weary world of a new threat of extinction, a terrible biomechanical weapon of mass destruction.
On the way you have to battle armies of mutated creatures while navigating through the labyrinthine tunnels of the Epsilon bunker. You will find weapons to aid your quest, and credit chips for use in the shops that appear between levels. The more than 60 maps appear in a somewhat random order to enhance re-playability. The blend of old-school arcade action and true focus on tactics is what sets this game apart from an ordinary shooter.

Mech-Network

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/mech-network/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Mech-Network is designed to be the first of it's kind, which allows YOU, to develop Mods.
