Branching from their popular Summer Games and Winter Games series, this game consisted of some sports purportedly popular in California.

The game sold very well, topping game selling charts for winter months. It also got very positive reaction from reviewers. Many consider California Games to be the last classic Epyx sport game. After this game, the staff in Epyx changed.

Rampage World Tour

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/RampageWorldTour/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Rampage World Tour was a reinvention of the original arcade classic; created for Midway Mfg. by the original designers, Jeff Nauman and Brian Colin and the crew at Game Refuge Inc.

The game follows George Lizzy and Ralph as they smash and fight their way through hundreds of cities around the Globe. This update game added dimension to the characters andadvanced the storyline, but stayed true to the user-friendly "there's no wrong way to play it" gameplay mechanic of the original.

Though incredibly violent, the game treats all interaction with a cartoony, blood-free, tongue-in-cheek approach that keeps the action light-hearted and appealing to players of all ages.

This "Sequal" has spun off a number of additional "Rampages" on a number of platforms .. but many feel that RWT was the best of the lot.

Joust

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/joust/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Joust's simple controls, and the fact that it was one of the few games two players could play together, helped make this arcade game a hit.

You play a knight mounted on an ostrich. You must use your lance to joust against wave after wave of enemies. The only controls you have are to flap your wings and to move left and right, making it quite easy to get into the game. You may defeat an opponent by colliding with them with your lance higher than theirs.

When you beat an enemy, they drop an egg. If you let it hatch by not collecting it, it will spawn a tougher enemy than the one who dropped the egg.

Other dangers include a lava pit at the bottom of the screen, a lava troll which tries to drag you into the lava pit, and a very tough-to-beat pterodactyl which appears if you take too long on a level.

At 0400 hours, we received confirmation from NASA that an asteroid field larger than any recorded in the history of civilization is headed for a direct collision course with Earth. If just one of these asteroids were to hit Earth's surface, the impact would measure at approximately 50 megatons - 4,000 times the explosive power of the fission bomb used on Hiroshima.

Our entire military fleet is currently at war with the Martians and, as fate would have it, the asteroid field is too far away from Mars to reassign a Commander. You are the only armed ship within reach of the field.

Your mission is simple: Eliminate all asteroids. Our information sources believe gravitational forces have banded the asteroid field into eight waves. This will provide time between each wave to repair your ship.

Scientific analysis has shown the asteroids' outer shells are coated in almandine carconite, a rare, highly explosive mineral which is normally only safe at extremely low temperatures. This means a single shot from a laser turret will suffice to blow the asteroid into pieces, but be warned! The explosion will be so large that you are advised to stay well back. A severe explosion could interfere with your guidance systems, or ultimately obliterate your ship.

The entire fate of the world rests in your hands. Good luck.

Sopwith XNA

http://www.greatgamesexperiment.com/game/sopwithxna/?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss

Sopwith XNA is a remake/update of Sopwith II. Shopper Rush is a 2D game in where you control a single character in a sea of AI players.
The basic game mechanics are based on group behavior and flow dynamics. For example; If 100 people are rushing to the stairs, chances are that it will clog up and you're probably better of taking the slightly longer route around it.

The Flying Invaders is a free space invaders (tm) clone, but there is more, this clone comes complete with source!

Thats right, you can download not only a playable game, but the source code to see how to make the game yourself!

I wrote this game for beginners using Aurora who wanted to know how to use 3d and 2d together to make something unique, but as a challenge, I used the 2d surface that one would normally use for the HUD to place the game on, and the backdrop is a rotating sun, with an orbiting planet that has its very own moon!

I left alot of features out of the game so that others who are learning could add in what could already be there, this was to reduce the complexity of the code since the target audience in mind was new game developers!

This was written in Aurora, so you would need to get a demo version of Aurora and once you load the project, simply follow the instructions for creating a BASS.Lib file and then compile away!

This one is slightly different, and requires a bit more thinking than the standard methods.

There are two things to focus on, each of them a ring with 15 circles. You can rotate the outer ring with your mouse. When the colors of each of the circles match up, click the left mouse. If you've aligned them properly, you'll get points and extra time. Otherwise, you'll just lose some points. Then, the colors reset and you try again. Try to get the most rings possible in a minute and earn yourself a highscore!

There are 3 gamemodes, and 8 "skins".
Liberally taking aspects from popular arcade games like Space Invaders and the likes, Gundown borrows the similar gamestyle but adds in its own unique style of elements, such as: angled shots which require more tactic on the player's behalf, firepower upgrades to leave more destruction, and plenty of particle effects to keep the player's bloodlust at bay. :)
